Hello, I'm Tony a young rider,  62 years old, I got my first Varadero Blue in 2006 and after several other bikes I finally go back to  varadero 1000 again a 2006 black. I'am also member of the french forum. Some of your members already know me. I hope can join you in germany for the next VIM. BEST REGARDS.

That's got to do with French politics.
At some point, France decided to put a new structure between the "tiny" departments (95 in European France) and the "full" French administration. These were the regions, that in some cases recovered ancient region names, like Alsace.
Later, the number of regions was considered to be excessive, so a few were merged. One was Alsace, which was indeed small, but had a distinctive history of its own. Alsace became a part of a new macroregion named Grand Est.
Strasbourg/Strassburg, home to Jyrki, is Alsace's main city.

JosepM

BTW. Schönau, home for next vim, must be about 5 km far of Alsace, musn't it?  :D
