I just ordered a new battery for my 2008 Varadero, almost $250. It's 7 years old and I don't want to take a chance that it will let me down when I'm on a trip. I'm just wondering how long is the average Varadero battery is lasting.
I think I replaced mine after some 8 years.
I believe that using the bike on a very regular basis (as I do) is good for the life of the battery.

I agree 100% with Josep.
I've just had to replace the battery on my Vara which has only been on the road for 14months !
The bike was "pre-registred" and sat idle at the dealers for at least 18 months which I'm sure is what killed the battery.
Meine Dicke is build in 2008. If I did pay attention in school she is now 7 years. And I have up to now no problems with.
BUT I see the way how the battery gets charged and I think there will be a upcoming problem somewhen, but when
I donīt know.
I will pay, if I have to change the battery, here in Germany about 65 EUROs.
Greetings from the South of Germany
Batteries are unpredictable, I know of one that quit after six months on a Varadero. Probably why they are not covered under Honda warranty.
My battery died during our saturday trip at vcim in Geiranger last year.
Prooved to be the original battery from 2004: so it lasted for 10 years. With the great help of a very kind Norwegian local biker we managed to find the right battery in "the middle of nowhere" and continued our tour, with some delay, over the Trollstigen. In more than one way it was an unforgettable day
Thnx to Pixi314, tore, twoplugs, blacksmith & martin for their assistance!
Never change on my previous vara's .
Madero, we had a look from far on vcim16. But there was a lot of people around your bike
Mine died late last year (instantly!) ..so about 6+ years. I bought a replacement AGM type from Canadian Tire
for about C$100 and so far, so good. I always use a battery tender. I found the post I made but couldn't make a link work....sorry....search the forum and you'll find it
Mine was on the way out. Looks like the second since the bike was new according to records. Got a Canada version of the Yuasa AGM battery - YTX20CH-BS which is a bit taller than the regular Yuasa but still fits like a glove. $100 shipped. The dealers want $250 CDN. Ouch!

250 bux, that's insane! I assume that was from the dealer, an independent battery shop would have been more economical.
If you haven't picked it up yet, don't, until you talk to a battery place.
I had the battery for almost seven years and it's still ok but I know it won't last forever. That's why I want to replace it. The dealer had to order it from Japan!!! It may be here in May. Unfortunately we'll still have lots of snow in May . I know I could get one cheaper on-line but I feel the original is of good quality and I'm willing to pay the extra money.
The battery on my 2003 SD01 Vara lasted 10 years. When not in use the bike was plugged into an Optimate battery tender. The bike also lived in the Algarve for all its life, so the generally warm climate might have helped.

I think the Battery Tender helps.
I think the Battery Tender helps.
For sure. I swear by them. I work away a lot and sometimes my bike is stored for 6 weeks or more. Always good to know the battery is being looked after.
