So after my first Travel experience in Norway, having to ride for long times because of the 60km/h limitations, worst days I would be 10h on my saddle and honestly after coming back home... after 5300km couldn't ride for 2 weeks because my butt was traumatized
!
Now I'm fine about 4 to 5 hours on the saddle, but after 8 days straight driving I really thought my butt died, so what do you guys do about this ? Only thing I saw around where I live is the SWmotech cushions, but not sure I can try withtout making an order.
No problems at ALL with AT, CT I needed to change the seat
Once read about something in the USA that might help , unsurprisingly it was called Butt Cream ! don't know if you can still get it but it'd be cheaper than a new seat.
Might have been Butt Paste !!!
First of all, be careful which clothing you wear.
When going long distance I always start with a couple of cotton boxer shorts, without any stitchings in the back. Then a set of long underwear, Rukka "Seamless" when hot, Thermo underwear when cold, and the inner lining as needed, all slinky and without any stitchings in the back. My Rukka has an area in the rear with channels, which enables some ventilation between the clothing and the seat.
I´ve got the original seat on my Varadero, and this combination (seat and clothing), has (two times), made me manage up to 2500 km in less than 24 hours.
Thanks for all the informations guys, I looked at the butt cream and it's more to do with chafing, which isn't my issue my ass get's just sore.
I guess the only option is saddle related, because I do wear a long thermal layer from Icebreaker and the seam is in the buttcrack, so I actually
never felt it and my adventure gear is also without seams and one anti slip kind of leather piece under the butt. Heck I even tried my cycling shorts,
with the foam on your private parts and ass, but it didn't make any difference, maybe made it even worse !
Strange I don't see a saddle for the AT on the Briant website, but that could be okay since it's not for from Switzerland !
So nobody ever tried the external cushions like SWmotech produces !?
The issue is the same seat will work well for one person and not the other. Take me and Jrays. He didn't like the CT seat and likes the AT seat. I am the other way round.
In my view seat comfort is a combination of a number of factors:
- the clothing you wear (good points Bonne)
- saddle fitness - if you have not been in the saddle much then do long rides you will not find long days comfortable. Sometimes it is a matter of conditioning ourselves for the duration.
- seat design. For my Transalp the seat did not work for me, so I took it to an upholsterer and had it rebuilt to suit me
- your anatomy. Each of us is different so no one seat is going to work for all. It takes a little bit of experimentation to get it right so the seat fits your bum.
Thanks, I can't have better riding clothes honestly, so that's fine and I guess I'll try the think from SW motech thingy first, because I love the saddle colour and design as it is and even tried with my cycling shorts that have cushioning... it was even whorse
, so the problem is really under my butt, in between the legs part is fine.
I might need to mount the saddle on a pole and make it my office chair
, then my butt would get used to it ahahah!
Luckily I got mine on Ebay as new, considerably cheaper than new. I cannot recommend one highly enough, it will be a good investment.
