Hi there
I be doing a few different posts I’m going to have this
Back in good shape.
So I have noticed that the forks have rust on them.
I’ve not been out for a test run yet after fixing the engine.
Do you think I can save them?.
Thanks
The forks will work (for a while) but will eat the seals eventually leading to forks leaking.
Yes that’s what I was thinking.
I was hoping I could
Do something like 1000-1200 wet and dry and
Some wd40 or something to remove it before
It damaged them.
It will rip the seals up
In no time like that.
I’m going to remove them to make it better to
Work on them.
I’m going to have upgrade the springs when I’m at it but
I’m not sure what type are good to go for yet?.👍
you can try 000 steel wool that you will moisten well with WD40 and rub to remove it.
for the springs you can try (progressive)
Hyperpro, nice stuff
Thank you
I will get some of it in then 🍻👍
They will clean up with as mentioned wire wool or fine wet and dry, but may cause leaks if the pitting is to bad, when cleaning the pitting off them don’t go up and down go but around the leg, if pitting is deep you can as a bodge add a strong glue in the pit mark then flat it down to the level of the chrome, but if you are going to do things correctly and put new springs in get them re chromed or replace the stanchions.
With the hyper pro springs they do stick out the tops more than the standard springs and getting the caps on is a bit of a struggle.
Ok I’m going to remove them in the next few days.
And like you say will do a better job of it.
Now I know how to do pictures lol
I will do some pictures when they are off.
Thank you for the help fabulous 🍻👍
ring ALL BIKE ENGINEERING, they rechromed some africa twin stantions for £180 for me.
