The German Motorcycle magazine MOTORRAD (Motoplus in Dutch) published one of the first comparing tests with the CRF1000 Africa Twin and teo of its direct rivals in todays edition.
The overall Winer Is: The Honda! It has been a (very) long time since any Honda managed to score that well with a bigtrail / adventure bike!

Which two of it's rivals did they compare it to? oops, read the title now.
This is not the comparison it should be in my view. The AT is not a competitor to these two bikes, as they're not 50/50 designed adventure touring bikes. It should be compared to the tiger xcx and BMuu800gs.
I don't read Motorcycle magazines for many reasons. I don't know about the German magazines but the UK ones like RIDE all seem to have an agenda when it comes to all the different comparisons they do. For years it has been BMuu always the best bike, no matter what the category, (unreliable bavarian scrap ) in my opinion closely followed by the triumph tiger explorer . The explorer is the dogs bollocks in off road motorcycling until of course you hit a bump in the road/track and your front subframe breaks off and is left hanging by the cables.
Everyone has a different view and a different needs when it comes to motorcycling, some people just love being on first name speaking terms with their local dealer technician. Not me i'm afraid I just love being in the knowledge that when I go out for a local ride or a big trip to Europe that i'm going to get home on my bike not in the hire car my insurance arranges along side the breakdown truck. That'll be the Varadero for me thanks.
Me too I don't read magazines any more.
Because with time, my interest in bikes has been narrowing, so most bike types and makes have little to none interest left to me.
And because internet has become a major source of information, unavailable 25 years ago.
Information and opinions from either internet or magazines must be "filtered":
-25 years ago (I used to read a number of mags back then), all bikes were great according to Spanish magazines.
-And when I grabbed a British mag, it looked like that the only bikes worth riding were Triumphs and Ducatis and MV Agustas and radical RR Japanese bikes. I wonder how many British born again bikers suffered back pain or (worse) rode their bikes and bodies into ditches.
Greetings,
Josep

I agree totally.
Blabla wining wining :lol. Its a BIG conspiracy, those magazines. Get a grip guys. I didn't started this topic to discuss the objectivity of magazines. Since I have been working together with many of them, I do know the other site of the story.
So I will keep sharing them.
Jyrki... So happy for you! Mine is due to arrive within the next 2 weeks. Cureous regarding the Dunlop tires. Have read two tests in which they seem to be rather tricky @ wet road sircumstances...

You are correct, David. But that was the 'underline' of the article: it was fully pointed to 'onroad' use. The article says further on, that they will put the CRF1000 to the test with its more 50/50 orientated rivals, like the 800XCx and the 800GS later this season.

Yeah, be aware of the tires!
The tires are great on warm dry roads, but I have not heard many positives reported about them in the cold and wet. I will most likely fit TKC70's when I eventually sell the VFR1200X in favour of the CRF1000L...
Oh, You already convinced Antonia, David? LOL

Yes, but not until the kitchen is paid off. It was never a no, just a matter of when. Late this year I think. I'm hoping to have the Distributor's bike in a few months time for a little while first (if I can sweet talk them enough
)
