Don't forget to mention Triumph and KTM too, Barry. I think that those two manufacturers got the point how to incorporate their customers to their products, very, very well... Even a relative small and exclusive manufacturer like Ducati does it better than Honda...
They don't only sell a motorcycle, but a live style and give their customers the feeling to be 'involved'. Like BMuu and Harley are doing for ages.
After the long and intensive talks with the Honda delegation at V(C)IM 15, in Wales, I do think that Honda by now, got the point as well. Don't forget it takes at least 3-6 years to design and develop a whole new bike from a blank canvas...
But...: a little voice inside my head shouts that the next 3 years won't be interesting either. Despite the fact, that the new Africa Twin has now been officially announced.
Is Honda losing the battle to keep their customers 'attached'?
I don't think so... The new twocylinder 700 NC series are a huge success in Europe, like the new CB500 Series.
Its obvious that they change their perspective from 'loyal' (read: traditional) Honda riders, towards a new public.
From an economic point of view, this could become a very good decision in the upcoming few years (as long as the economic crisis continues).
But as soon as the economy in the Western countries starts to grow, Honda should have their answers ready.
