I have a 08 Varadero with ABS, am having some charging system problems and all tests seem to point to the Regulator being the issue.
In Canada the dealer wants $503.00 but the unit is backordered with no ETA, I can find lots for the Non-ABS Version online for substantially less, is there that big of a difference between the 2 models ?
Any info is appreciated
Hi, vhenem.
I checked the catalogue from
www.bike-parts-honda.com.
The rectifier for ABS models has part nr 31600-MBT-D51.
Non-ABS is 31600-MBT-D21.
That means it's probably not the same part.
Maybe you can try a search for used parts.
It's the same rectifier for all ABS models 2004-2011.
It appears that there is no difference, vendor here lists only one part number and doesn't even ask if it's ABS or not for almost half of what Honda wanted. I did however find a person dismantling an 07 with about 50,000 km on it for cheap so will try a used one to see if my solve my problem.
Thanks for the links
for almost half of what Honda wanted.
Problem is sometime Chinese part does not do the job properly and in safe conditions ...
NOt 100% sure, but the ABS models have a Mosfet R/R, much stronger than classic shunt-type found on the non-ABS and carbed Varadero.
The weaknesses are, like always, the connections (plugs etc).
