I knew that one day it would pay off to commute into central London with such a battleship instead of a nimble sports bike. Was riding on the M4 just after the off ramp with the A312 and focusing on two other bikers in front of me when, lying on the ground very flat, a partly destroyed cargo pallet appears just after the car in front of me narrowly managed to avoid it.
No way to brake suddenly cause of following man in a van, no way to swerve around it because of the other bikes next to me and the pallet occupying both part of my lane and the hard shoulder. I went the only way possible: Straight over it!
Bike handlebars didn't even notice, it felt like going over a pothole! My guess is thanks to the heavy weight and the taller front wheel.
Anakee 3s are fine, too.
Perfect! you're a champion! Hope it will not arrive to me; not sure I can pass thru
Good news is you didn't fall!
Thanks for the lesson, too: better go straight through the obstacle in your way!
Greetings,
Josep
I can't remember when and where I read that, but I actually did read that most accidents are made worse when people try to swerve around instead of shedding off speed....
This does depend on the circumstances, though. Not sure I could have made it over an intact pallet...but then I would have seen it earlier, too.
My job is road safety and yes more people get injured by not takin the hit straight. That goes for two and four wheels or even more!
Onward and upward, keep on pushing sraight ahead, what else to do
