I've had good luck with
MotoGoLoco which uses Googlemaps and let's you create your own GPX files.
Well, Googlemaps is a free service and since no one pays for the service the developer can do whatever the company likes. The affect is that no one hardly will use the service anymore, since it not is user friendly.
If you want to use the old version of googlemaps and be able to use a converter to whatever GPS there is, it is a free software using this and you don't even have to install it.
It is a Pc/desktop solution only but it is a way better planning tool
You can start the application via Webstart or have the routeconverter.exe file in a folder. Approx, 9 Mb space required.

Josep,
I can remember you prefer smokingsignals above cellphones and paper above GPS SatNavs...
What is wrong with Tyre? Its got the same map interface as the old Google maps and even better, it allows to create roadbooks in both *.gpx and *.gdb format, among others. I started with the freeware version, but got a licenced version which came with my SatNav (TomTom rider). With my new TomTom rider v400 which is gojng to be installed on the Dero tomorrow, I get the upgraded version.
Tyre allows to create roadbooks from nothing, or modify existing roadbooks or tracklogs made by a GPS SatNav. All with unlimited waypoints which makes a route far more precise.
Mapsource was my favorite, but since Garmin changed to Basecamp Tyre is by far the better and more user friendly option. Even the freeware version.
