At last, I have taken the plunge and committed to purchase a 2013 Crosstourer, an ex-demo bike, directly from the New Zealand distributor for Honda motorbikes. The bike has less than 5,000km on it, and I put about 500kms on it this time last year when the Distributor lent it to me to ride over a weekend soon after the 2013 model came out. It is silver with a manual gearbox, which I prefer.
Fitted to the bike will be:
- heated grips - a must
- crash bars
- Honda panniers, side and top
- daytime running lights
I will pick up the bike sometime in September and will post pictures once the bike is with me. I'm a happy chap, I do like this bike better than the Varadero, and I also prefer it over several other well known big adventure touring bikes. The bike and I fit together well, like and hand and glove...
Cheers from Downunder
Have pleasure on your new, and yes share your pic's ASAP !
Be careful with Honda panniers ...
One of us (here in France) said Honda crash bar is like butter ...
have changed after first fall ...
Congrats with the purchase, Mr Kiwi! Good to have you back on a Honda - not that your previous Tiger was a bad bike, not at all!
Congratulations for your bike!
I don't know how waterproof Honda topcase is, but it was very critizised because any thief can just open the zip and then cut to have access to the inside.
I guess, though, that thieves are no major concern in NZ.
Greetings,
Josep
Congratulations with your new bike Mr. kiwi!
Good choice too! I was not very fond on the crosstourer but once I've seen (and heard) some at VIM#16 I must admit that it's a very, very nice bike! No chain-maintenance for you anymore :-)
Lots of fun and safe trips with it!
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I should keep my metal mule side panniers and have these fitted to the bike.
Congratulations MrKiwi, on my 2013 Crosstourer I did 50K kms including VCIM16, now I am riding 2014 Crosstourer already 6K kms. I have no desire for any other type of bike, it supply all my demands and desires.

Hi Jack, that is some distance you've done on the 1200X. I'm pleased to hear you like it. My view is once people ride this bike they will like it. It's centre of gravity is lower than the Varadero, the engine has better power and torque, there is no chain to maintain, it is comfortable and has very good manners. The only down side is a slight reduction in fuel economy, which in my view is a small price to pay for a bike that is easy to ride and is well suited to two up riding all day long in comfort. I can't wait to get my bike. Happy riding, cheers from downunder.

I still have the Tiger
, but it will be gone once the 1200X arrives. I really like the 955i triple motor, but I also like the 1200X V4 motor. They are quite similar in how power is applied, but the big Honda engine has more power and torque. The Tiger never really suited me size wise, I'm a little too big for it and the split seat of the Tiger is literally a pain in the a@#$.
I posted a pic of my new bike on the VCIF face book page, I haven't figured out how to post pictures to this forum from a third party hosted site yet

As I can't reply in the thread mentioned by zebulon, I'll do it here.
When writing your post, if you click on he "gioconda button" then you have a couple of img tags. Within them, you have to write the actual address of your individual picture, that is, the one you have on your browser when you can see your picture and your picture alone. This depends on the particular site you use to store your pictures.
If you quote a post with pictures included, you will see what the structure is. And, of course, you can click on "preview" to check if everything's allright.
