Speedcamera option on TomTom is NOT dissabled. You have to switch it off. France is not the only problem, its illegal in most EU countries. In Switserland f.e. your GPS will be confiscated and the fine you have to pay is astronomical.
Just keep your speed legal.
You got a bit off-topic
Anyway, after long consideration I have made my decision. Garmin is on its way.
As summary all I heard and read says there is no big difference and as I am used to Garmin so I decided towards it.
Thank you all...
Now, the next topic is... can I use the danger zone warnings and where to find the POIs?

I think it is best to choose a database that is active and is based in the country that you are going to use it for.
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ is one of the best for the UK and has good lists for other countries. If you join and report a camera that has not bee previously reported you will get free membership for life. they also have a large range of file formats that work with many different GPS systems (including many of the in car systems).
They have over 300 cameras listed for Finland
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/activecams.php I'm not sure how this compares with other databases !
SB
I cannot read that !!! where have you find these informations !!!
I've done an international section on French forum, you can find or ask any question you have; here is the link
http://crosstourer.fr/varadero/index.php?board=117.0 You have to be informed before saying such thing on an international forum a lot of people of different country can read
When I ask for information on a country I don't know here, I hope they are true !
So please have a look on right information, and come back .... thank you
Jyrays, I send you a Garmin file
Re a speed camera database
I have used these for the last couple of years
http://www.scdb.info/on my garmin
Sorry I was not more clear about it...
Who's of-topic now?
Seriously... sharing the information about speedtraps is legal.
Using it, NOT!
Jyrky, congrats with the decision, not with the choice...
TomTom Rules!

Bull***t
In the UK and a few other places it is still the case that speed cameras are there to prevent accidents. Not just to collect money.
In the UK speed cameras are only allowed to be placed in locations where accidents have occurred or there is a high risk of accidents.
Identifying these locations before you arrive at them is therefore much safer than taking your picture after you have driven through them at the wrong speed.
Using camera location software is still legal and encouraged by the government in the UK.
This is NOT the UK Varadero Forum, Stewart.
And from your own 'UK' automobile club:
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/radar-detectors-in-france.htmlQuote from the AA website:
Speed-trap detection devices
The use or possession of devices to detect police radar is illegal in most European countries. Penalties can include fine, driving ban, and even imprisonment.
Some countries now also prohibit the use of GPS based navigation systems which have maps indicating the location of fixed speed cameras meaning that you must deactivate the 'fixed speed camera' PoI (Point of Interest) function.
This is the INTERNATIONAL Varadero & Crosstourer Forum. Happy for you (same liberal rules apply for the Dutch situation too!) but unfortunately, in some EU countries like Germany and France (and NON EU nations like Switzerland) it IS illegal.
This is NOT the UK Varadero Forum, Stewart.
This is the INTERNATIONAL Varadero & Crosstourer Forum.
The EU has 28 countries. This forum has members from many more countries outside the EU.
So far we have only confirmed 3 or 4 that have laws banning the use of speed camera POI's.
That's not "Most" , it's not even "some" it's "a few".
Keeping things in perspective will help to stem the relentless tide of bureaucracy that will eventually make anything that's fun illegal.

I could be wrong but I don't think the french police will check to see if you have safety camera locations or danger zones loaded.
I mean at the same time they could see max speed
[/quote]
This is exactly what was in the press at the time. Delete max speed if you are stopped (assuming you were speeding). I'm slightly loopy but I don't just make these things up. When it was reported it was an 'ot topique' (bad French accent).
I've certainly been the victim of Gendarme excess taking advantage of my difficulty with the language.
Zeb says it's not true but then why did the networks blank the information?
