Hello friends,
just like every year, I am spending a few weeks out of town, and I need to ride 4-6 km out of asphalt every day.
In the past that's given me problems with the chains. Either I cleaned them almost daily or otherwise the (much) dust would ruin it very quickly.
For the first time I've got no chain on my bike. Yet I wonder, should I have some special care with the shaft?
Thanks,
Josep
No special care needed. That's the benefit of a shaft drive.
Indeed. Since I got two shaft bikes too (the good old XLV's
) I have some experience.
Thing you have to keep in your mind... a shaft is NOT 100% free of maintenance. Once in a time, you have to change the shaft oil. Check your maintenance manual for the interval.
On the XLV (which are not that heavily used as the Varadero) I change the shaft oil on average every 10.000km / 5 years (which ever comes first).
Not that expensive... approx. € 10,- per change and at least on the XLV750R, easy to do your selves.
No special care needed. That's the benefit of a shaft drive.
Unless its a BMUU drive with dodgy bearings
Just ride and enjoy! Your shaft is changed to new version, right?
Yes, I understand I needn't worry and just ride and enjoy
(29th June addition)
A few days ago I got a letter regarding a change of the full shaft drive within the next few weeks. So I don't have to be particularly gentle with my current unit
Greetings
Josep
