Hi folks not had my varadero long but have a problem thats really annoying, start it up no problem then sometimes after about 500 yards it cuts out feels like fuel starvation, leave it five mins it starts and runs all day. Then today about fifty miles into a run did it again after a ciggy break started and rode well all the way home.Only then did I notice the clock had changed and both trips had reset, wots goin on!
any idea I would be most grateful Chris
It will better to have some information, year & mileage...
it seems to be the fuel pump if you have a carb model ...
Verify the connection with battery also ...
A faulthy feulpump ( only on the MK I ) won't reset the clock or speedometer...
Chech the battery and its mountings/connectors. Rectifyer can cause some anoances too....
I've understood there are 2 problems .... But perhaps no, sorry for my poor English
Sounds to me like a weak battery and MK1 behaviour. The first tencency's is when clock and odo resets in a start attempt.
Then it runs like nothing happened.
As recommended I would check the contacts to rectifier and solenoid where the mainfuse is located and change the battery.
Hi,put a post on couple of weeks ago, failed start and clock was changing and trip zeroing, checked connections put on new battery and all seemed ok. Now occasionally speedo and rev counter go off for split second and headlights are dimming, this is really peeing me off!
Please Please any one any ideas Bike is a 2002 xl1000 with 28k on
There's a short somewhere and I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi had EXACTLY this problem on my 2002. - was driving me mad..
got fuel pump replaced as advised but still happened occasionally, so then got regulator/rectifier replaced and NO PROBLEMS since in 18/12 and daily riding..
Both pump and reg/rec seem to be a weakness - I would get new both, check all connections and hopefully should sort it !
Best wishes, SR
