Lyon-home diversion
« on: July 15, 2016, 14:32:03 »
OK. As I said, I had some affairs to do in Lyon, so what a better choice for this displacement than my CT?

On my way up, I met a Finn who is (possibly) craizier than others I know  8)
He had left his wife in Marbella to fly a couple of days later, and was going up home by er.. bike  ;D

After I left Lyon, following Gilles advice, I went to Grenoble and the Lautaret pass. Signs said the road was closed, but Gilles knew that a tiny "route de secours" had been opened on the other side of a lake. This one:

So I could go up the Lautaret, a light rain would go with me now and then for the next km

And the top of Lautaret pass

Then up another great pass (strongly adviced by Gilles): the Izoard

Top

And down the Izoard. Here is "la Grande Casse" (again info courtesy of Giles)

Another one. Up the Col de Vars

Top

As I reached Jausiers (where I had my room booked) early enough, I decided to go up and down la Bonette. Nice weather, excelent asphalt and hardly any traffic. Result was less than one hour of fun galore.  8)

Alone on the top. This had never happened in my previous about 5-6 times

Morning after, early, before the mobile homes start their move, I went for the Col de la Cayolle. A narrow bumpy road on its N side, narrow and twisty in the S.

With various dangers, as the authorities warn us

On top

Going down

I wanted to tackle the Col des Champs, but it was closed because of a running event.  >:(
I'll have to go back some day  ;)
So I went further down

I crossed the Gorges de Daluis

And the rest is some nice road plus motorway.

Greetings to all,

Josep

I spent a week based in Jausiers in 2006 with Andy Nelson (Happychappy) who some of you may remember from VIM - Poland.

Some fantastic roads and some great memories.

VCIF_ThumbUp my program for tomorrow is LAUTARET, La Grave/La Meije, certainly Galibier, and probably Izoard .... Perhaps Bonnette for Sunday  :D

You lost a pannier...  ;D Great scenery though, haven't been on these roads for too long.

Pannier lost? Well, I was riding solo, so 1+1/2 panniers were enough  ;D
I'd swear that road surfaces have generally improved in the last 10 years.
