Q on a nagative longitude... what to use?
« on: May 02, 2013, 09:59:02 »
Hi guys 'n girls

I'm very, very fond of my TomTom Urban Rider but I hardly use it to navigate on GPS coordinates. Navigation on postal code or postal address is normally enough to get me where I wanna go... Preparing my journey through Ireland, I discovered that some places of interest use a 'negative' longitude, where others replace the '-' sign by '0' or '00', for example:

Latitude: 52.2250
Longitude: -9.4600

Or:

Latitude: 52.2250
Longitude: 009.4600

Whats the difference, and which one to use?

"-" == Wnnn.nnnn
"+" == Ennn.nnnn

I would try to do reverse engineering:

just choose a known point W of the Greenwich meridian, and see what happens. Then do accordingly with the rest of them.
