Many electrical problems, start-up, RPM meter
« on: April 07, 2016, 15:34:50 »
When starting my Varadero 2001 this morning, it took at least ten seconds. I had parked downhill, if it makes a difference.
Yesterday it rained for many hours. I went through a hard rain for a couple of minutes, and then continued in sunshine. I drove a total of maybe 30 kilometres. The bike started to drop dropper like 1/10th of a second at a time, at different intervals. The RPM needle started acting up, going from i.e. 4000 to 2000 to 0, up and down.
I stopped at a stopping place, and it died on me. I couldn't get I to start. The fuel lamp had not been on, now it was.

I got 7.09 litres of fuel, drove 8.5 kilometres, fuelled up. Got 14 litres. That means 21 litres, so I should have had 4 litres left earlier. Therefore, fuel should not have been a problem.

If I turn the key, the key lamp and fuel lamp may not turn off now. I turn off and on, and it way turn off the lights. Then, the bike will start.
Why? Hiss-problem?

So:
Starting problem
Key-light and fuel-light won't turn off. Turn key, it may.
RPM-needle won't move (it does sometimes).
Loses power 1/10th of a second when cruising.

Stator failure. 2/3 of effect to charge the battery. By turning of lights 110w will be free to charge the battery and all other needed components.

Gas pump changed, 50000.
They think it is the reader for the key transponder, the "EBC-coil"?
Would be minimum a week and 160 euro.

Is it possible to bypass the systems? Any solution is fine, ugly or not. It just have to be drivable!

This seems to be the problem:
30430-MBT-305

Gas pump I don't think is the problem, as the HISS light and tank light sometimes stays on, sometimes goes off!

Dead battery? Do you have a trickle charger?
I had similar symptoms when my regulator and stator went on another bike. Wouldn't recharge the battery when running and got progressively worse until it killed the battery.
Do you have a voltage meter to test the power reaching the battery?

I have checked the stator, and we tried another battery. Mine has been charged. We also get around 14,6 when revving a little bit.
The mechanic says the regulator is OK!

I'm at home now, as I didn't feel like living in a tent on the backyard of a mechanic for the next week.
Preparing for fixes when it comes home!

On another forum, someone pointed out there could be a problem with ground somewhere. This could of course be a problem.

My plan is to order a new receiver part for 120 GBP and change it as soon as the bike comes home (hopefully within two weeks).
The experts around here - do you think it is a waste of money, or a big chance of fixing the problem...?  VCIF_ok

Have you tried resyncing your key with HISS?

I've read only that sometimes something silly like that can help these weird issues. And in that case you would not even need to replace any parts.

Only if there was an easy garantuee that that would completely get rid of the issue...

No, but I do have tried the second which (which was far away from the antenna from the beginning, to not confuse any systems). I have tried to "reset" the electrical system but taking off the – from the battery, with the key at on, for fifteen minutes.
