Suzuki V-strom 1000 ABS
« on: October 07, 2013, 18:53:20 »
At the EICMA motorshow in Milan Suzuki will officially introduce the brand new V-strom 1000 ABS!

A 1037 cc DOHC V-twin, 101BHP,104Nm@4000rpm, 228 kgs(!) and a fuelconsumption of 20.9 km/lt.
Equippped with ABS, tractioncontrol (4 modes), adjustable windscreen, ups-forefork, radial brakes and 20ltr. fueltank. Price is still unknown but to be expected very interesting! It all sounds like a serious and modern competitor to the Varadero V-twin class!
Nice bike t.m.o.!

What do you think about it?

Aesthetically, I believe it is err... well, not quite "inspired" by the leader (bee em u u), but either not so "appealing" IMHO  ::)

If figures of weight and power are correct, they are to be taken seriously. I am old enough not to care much about fashionable looks, you know.  8)

Old VStrom were accused to brake *even* less than Varaderos! This is a point to be taken into account.

On the other hand, price should be unbeatable (by any other than Kawasaki). So, in the end, it's about how much money to spend you have and what's the best alternative within affordable ones.  ;)

For the moment, I am stuck to my 173000 km old Vara. You know, I am making a house, so I can't buy any bike in the immediate future ...  ;)

Hi,

Surely an attractive alternative regarding price.

The look is not my cup of tea (very personal).

Looking at the seat, I would question the comfort on long distances though. It looks a bit like a mono-level cross seat (like the first KTM's). To be confirmed...

ZZR600 - Transalp - Varadero 2001 - Varadero 2007 and now VFR 1200 XDCT... the best bike until now !

Plus: with the Vstrom, the DL650 was always the better choice. And is still a very good investment... Excellent value for money. I doubt if this new DL1000 will even come close to the success the DL650 brought to Suzuki. Even as an Honda adebt, I think the DL650 is even preferable above the Transalp XL650V / XL700V. Especially the latest one.

The previous DL1000 wasn't cancelled on the EU market without a reason...  ;D

The same reason that Honda cancelled the Varadero?

I prefer the new Caponord, rave reviews so far with a reasonable price tag.

Yes. Euro 3 Emission regulations.
The big DL1000 is still available every where else, even in the US.

Due to some unexplainable reasons, KTM, BMuu, Aprillia, Ducati, etc are managing to build a big 1200 cc 2-cylinder which comply to the Euro 3 emission regulations, and Honda can't...  ??? :o

According to the British Honda website, where the Varadero still figures, it
complies with Euro-3 emmision regulations, so that´s not the reason.

I seem to recall the Top Gear presenters had a good explanation for how the Italian motor manufacturers coped with the Euro regulations !

Pricetag seems reasonable. Around 12000€ for anyone looking for new stuff. Comparing to Dct clutch and v4 1200cc engine and 6000 euros more. If something is a successor, this one is closest to the Vara. Can't be that bad. After all there is warranty. A test ride would be something.

Thinking the old dl650 and the Dl1000 shared the same frame where the 650 was more fuel efficient but to small for the bigger engine

No price revealed in the Netherlands yet, but if that €12.000 is true it would be sensational! Even cheaper than the latest Varadero's 2 years ago!

Off course it's all very personal but this bike (showed with all the extra options) has got all I want on a adventurous bike! Modern technology and sturdy looks! Suzuki really hits the spot with this one!
