I have experience with Vara and CT, now also AT!

If you can only have one bike, what would it be Vara, CT or AT? Remember, only one.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than to seek permission.

Yesterday I went for a test drive (1hour) with the dct-version.
Conditions were poor with rain, slippery small roads and about 6°C.

My initial thoughts before the testdrive were skeptic, this dct-thing could be something for older, less mobile people. A real biker shifts himself.

How wrong could I be!!!

I really enjoyed my drive with the dct.
It was a real nice experience but you have to set the gearbox in S-mode (only 1 push of a button) instead of D-mode in which the bike starts up. In D you're in 6th gear after 100 meters and it takes a lot of time before the AT shifts down. In S-mode you can start to play much more.

Also in the small dirt road I drove.
I could really focus on the driving without dealing with shifting. And if I thought another gear was better I just used the manual shifter on the handlebar. Fantastic (for a "nonprofessional / less than an amateur" off-road driver).

The bike itself was well manufactured, felt half as light as the Dero, and can compete in kgs with my GS.
The center of gravity of the GS is lower but I did not encounter this as a problem on the AT.
The consumption on the display showed always around 5,3l/100km.

My conclusion:
I spent a nice testdrive and WHEN I decide to buy an AT it will be a dct-version. VCIF_ThumbUp

Hi Bruvex
Tnx for adding this valuable testride. I am very, very much doubting to do the test drive on a DCT version (if it is available here) after some very positive experiences with the CT DCT with footshift.

The whole world seems to embrace the new generation DCT bikes from Honda, with the new CRF1000 topping the cake. Must be something special.
Got the prices for the Dutch market... the only thing holding me back is the + €2.000,- for the DCT transmission...

Maybe the test ride would convince be to push myself over that imaginary edge ...  ;D ::)

Nice feedback Bruvex.

Like you I am not a professional but more amateur on gravel roads so the appeal if the DCT version is strong.

I'm hoping to test ride an AT in the coming weeks, but not sure if it will be the DCT version. Don't think the DCT model has made it to NZ yet.

I also did a "testride" with the DCT-AT last week.

But, to be honest, I don´t like the fully automatic. I used the manual gear shift and there I felt comfortable with the AT.

And yes, the new AT is a great MC, which I wanna have if all the teething problems are healed

Yes, we have (unfortunately). Besides VAT, you have to pay an additional 'Luxery' tax, BPM, on motorvehicles in The Netherlands...

In Spain there is, together with VAT, a 14% immatriculation tax for vehicles. This tax doesn't apply to buyers who register their vehicles abroad, but applies to Spanish residents who register vehicles bought used or new abroad. Second hand Spanish registered vehicles don't pay it either, because they needn't be re-registered.

BAck to AT. Prices are 12700 (non ABS), 13600 (ABS TC) and 14720 (DCT) in Spain, so 1120€ difference .

Greetings,

Josep

The good news... BPM tax will slowly be reduced from 2017.
But knowing our national Government L.T.D., they will most likely invent a new tax to dispensate...

Honda Canada dealer said May-June for the AT and VFR 1200. Most AT DCT's are presold!
Apparently Honda Canada's "quota" is now through Honda USA???
