New Boots

Hi all

I notice we don't have a section to discuss motorcycle gear we wear that we think is good, or maybe not so good.

Today I purchased a new set of adventure boots.  Sidi adventure boots Gore-tex.  These are a very comfortable fit and were recommended by a friend. Not the cheapest. What I like about these is the flap has a good overlap when tightening the boot up.  Some of the other boots I tried did not have a good vertical overlap which left the front of the boot exposed to the elements.





As a matter of interest, what adventure boots do you guys prefer?

When I use boots, they are simple leather with waterproof lining touring boots. The kind under 200 € I mean

For some reason, after about three years of use, they lose their waterproofness.

Solution is grease. Leather+grease make waterproofness

It was standing and walking in them that sold me on these boots, along with the decent flap up the leg when doing the boots up. With adventure boots, for me they need to protect me when riding but also be comfortable enough to walk a reasonable distance in them.  I occasionally park the bike along a ride and go for a walk.

Hi Josep - that certainly opens up the options for you.  As Skye says, grease works well, as do a number of leather shoe conditioner products.  On my old boots, which have lasted 5 years so far (and now reside with my XL600V in Bernard's garage) I regularly use a leather conditioner.

Gaerne Balance Oiled Trial boots.



Firs pair lasted 10 years including lots of Enduro riding in Turkey with XR650R. They are leather with water proof lining. They have two models, not so water proof without lining but much cheaper and these with waterproof lining.

Should I grease and be patient with the little leak of my current boots, wait a couple of years, and then bargain in the shop where Jyrki buys his stuff? (in their actual VATless Andorra shop I mean) 

Seriously, thank you guys for your advice! I believe sometime I will have to invest some €€€ in a decent pair of boots!

Excellent choice, David! Got the same for three years now and they stay dry and warm. Safety (which You don't get on a 'budget boot') is also very good, even as the support for feet and ankles.

I also owned the predesessor from TCX. Owned these for 5 yrs and over 80.000 km!

SIDI Discovery  boots (IIRC)
Must be about 9 years old and 100k km
Tough enough but still flexible and  good (proven ) protection
Left boot sole is now wearing down....
Seem to be still waterproof - I "grease" them every year -
.....but could be just sweaty socks

Meanwhile, I have to use grease to get them waterproof.
