VCIM17 France for dummies
« on: August 29, 2014, 20:02:29 »
Feel free to ask anything you want to know about  a VCIM 17. To anticipate any inconvenience or disappointment, here are some rules:

Reception of all participants will be done on Friday ( May 22 ) late afternoon.

There will be two proposals rides on Saturday & Sunday, or some other sites or activities for individual trips

Everybody is riding home (or elsewhere) on Monday morning .

You must pay for the meeting an attendance including BBQ on Friday evening, Breakfasts on Saturday, sunday & Monday;  picnic basket on Saturday & Sunday; Dinner for Saturday & Sunday; and a surprise goodie bag .

You have also to book a room or a camping place through the VCIM site ( we are working on the site) ; all information will be given a bit later...  ;)

That is obligatory. This is a VCIM17 rule and exceptions on a individual level can not be made

All information for payment will be done on the VCIM17 site (Bank transfer & Paypal)

You are all welcome !!!  :D

I see no problem with these instructions. My only problem is being able to plan so far in advance. Is there a likely deadline as the time approaches; capacity or notice.

Jyrky: its plain and simple, just as Zebulon posted: Wanna play? Than you need to register and pay. We will not allow 'sudden unregistered pop-ups' any more for the official venue's program.

Bernard, who is the 'we'.  I suggest it is up to Zebulon and his French helpers - our hosts for the VIM - to decide that sort of thing if and when it should happen.

I adapt to local laws!!!  :D  and the experience of other organizers and moderation team is important.  ;) This community is accessible for every body who want: The VCIM is our meeting; and as experienced elsewhere , I don't find normal, that people want to interfere ...
Don't worry no french helpers ... You see a lot of them here ??  ;D (but I know, I can ask for some of them, they've told me ...)

I am keen to work with Zebulon for the organising of VIM17 in France. We must learn from all previous VIMs to get the very best meeting next year. I have visited the site with Zebulon and it is excellent. But, as always, the site owners must know how many people will come to VIM and Zebulon must be protected from financial loss if some people say they will come but then change their mind. Hopefully we can fill the site and get a good price. There is a superb campsite close by with chalets too, so there could be a lot of flexibility if numbers are large. Zebulon will explore this. I am intending to travel down to the site, perhaps in February to assist with the plans.

The riding will be superb. This area of France is beautiful and unique. I experienced it when I attended this year's French meeting. But the French guys have a different idea with their meetings to what I think we expect from a VIM. They live close in one country and they like to do a lot of riding, from 9 until 6, or later. That is good if that is what you want but I think that VIM participants like some time to meet and to talk and drink a beer. Remember Tarragona. The law prevented more than 5 bikes travelling together. We had no group rides but we spent a lot of time on the beach. I think that VIM17 should give us flexibility and the opportunity to ride and to relax. That is only my opinion.

As Zebulon has already alluded to, there is friction between him and the French group because he is organising VIM17. Some of this is probably to do with French pride in their language giving way a little to the English of VIM. Gilles (Zebulon) and his wife Michelle need our support and thanks for doing this. Hopefully some of the French group will attend VIM and see that, it is only one year and is no threat to the French group. I will certainly be attending both meetings in May where Tess and I will get to enjoy both a national and an international Varadero/Crosstourer meeting in two different parts of beautiful France and with the great French welcome that we have come to love.

Thank you very much Jess !  VCIF_a095 Don't worry about my relation with French group ! I'm here, it is  the principal !  ;D Just, I cannot give you information on French meeting for those who want to go (I think it was a nice idea) Nice to have an exterior analyze ... I have chosen this family ; no worry about that . it just shows that there is not as great minds out there  8)

Yes I come with 9 french bikes in tarragona ; I still have contact with a lot of people of the french group, and yes some of them want to come ... But no problem as we say here "the absent are always wrong". You (Jess) can promote the VCIM on French board, on the opened topic  ;)

Don't worry for the trips; yes I've noticed we (french) like discovering much as possible of the country, and love riding on twists roads (and there is nothing else in the vcim area!  ;)); but I'll try to make various propositions; nothing will be obligatory; and you have just to choose!

Thank you again Jess for your support !!!

I have little to add. In my life, I have participated in just one motorcycle meeting or event of any kind: VIM Catalonia.
Of course, if I were to organize that meeting again, I'd do it better in a few aspects (all of them my responsability) which, IMO, were a bit poor.

One thing I learnt was this "freedom spirit" Jess is talking about. I remember having four "official activities": for Friday morning, Fri afternoon, Sat morning and Sat afternoon, and people attended to those they pleased. Some prefered to explore on their own, and some prefered the beach.

One thing I didn't do very well then was communication. Instead of a detailed explanation of the event, I think it is better to tell the newcomers what it is all about, and then let the actual details somewhere well visible and explained, so that every morning, mood depending, people make their final choices.

Certainly, a few people who know the area and can answer questions would be welcome for those who want to explore on their own pace (that's Gilles, Jess, me  8), ....)

regards

You too Josep who is an active French forumer can promote this event !
In any case , I do my best to make this meeting, the best ! I listen a lot everybody, I've lived by myself , some of them; then make my choices and hope a lot of people will agree with them. Yes it is a meeting, not an addition of some individuals.
