**** WARNING! Rear axle bearings ****
« on: August 31, 2018, 15:52:09 »
Hi,

I have seen some reports of broken hubs due to rear axle bearing failure but I thought it was mainly for off-road riding.

At latest tire change the mechanic notice my bike needs new bearings and it is just 29k km.

Please check your bearings before they break your hub!

Yes the bearings seem to be a weak point.

No. Erik just pointed out that the build quality of the Varadero is much better than the Africa Twin. No rusty wheels either, lol.  ;D

After some discussions I decided  to change the bearings now on 64kk, before I start a trip to the dolos soon.

I don't have any problems but now I use the second set of Scout (Heidenau) and my friends told, they might stress the bearings.

For replacement I use the all balls bearings.

Rear bearing broken for no apparent reason...
« Reply #12 on: October 23, 2018, 15:26:36 »
Last week the motorcycle started to wiggle in the rear, making high pitch noises and scaring me to death, yesterday a truck took it to the dealership.
My mechanic just called and confirmed my rear bearing is not just worn, it's completely broken, this is worrying me quite a lot after only one beginner
dirt session in June and only 21'500km so far.

How in hell would a bearing disintegrate so fast, with just 99% street riding, I am concerned it could happen again and next time during one of my
road trip abroad.
All services and tire changes have been made by professionals, so this is even more disturbing to me...

Any of you guys had bearing issues ?

Got the bike back allready, it's insane they showed me the right bearing 4 balls were into shreds, the left one was as new…
The mechanic asked Honda for a warranty repair, crossing my fingers and hope the new bearings are a better batch !
