How to get in and out of Denmark.

How to get in and out of Denmark?

Well, let's start with the Scandinavians.

From northwest: from Kristianssand, Langesund and Larvik (Norway), you have ferries to Hirtshals, located in the northest of Jutland.

https://www.google.dk/maps/place/9850+Hirtshals/@57.0274074,8.877028,6.78z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x4648c84950fc8e4d:0x139a906a2601e4a9!8m2!3d57.5869499!4d9.9668312

From Kristianssand and Larvik: https://www.colorline.dk/

From Kristianssand and Langesund: https://www.fjordline.com

From Oslo (Norway), you have ferries to Frederikshavn, also in the northest of Jutland, and to Copenhagen, on Zealand, where you have just around 60 km to Frederiksværk and the meeting.

To Copenhagen: https://www.dfdsseaways.no/

Coming from North Jutland, you have two possibilities to get to Zealand. You can either go via Fyn and the Storebæltsbridge, which is a toll bridge, that costs 130 DKK (ca. 17,5 Euro), for a motorcycle under 3m length, or you can take the ferry from Århus to Sjællands Odde. If the ferry is chosen, then you have three possibilities to get to Frederiksværk; you can either go via Holbæk or Roskilde, or you can take the ferry from Rørvig to Hundested.

How to get in and out of Denmark?

Then there's those coming from the south:

From southeast, you have a ferry from Rostock (Germany), to Gedser, less than 200 km from Frederiksværk, the crossing takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. Gedser is located on the island Falster, which is connected to Zealand via the Farøbridge (no toll).

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/Rostock,+Tyskland/Gedser/@55.7345969,10.427394,7.12z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x47ac50ac3bdc3837:0xd2f6e3e68f599ec3!2m2!1d12.0991466!2d54.0924406!1m5!1m1!1s0x47ad22435cb16b6b:0xa00afcc1d50dd00!2m2!1d11.931194!2d54.574422!3e0

From Rostock: https://www.scandlines.dk/

A bit more to the west you have the ferry from Puttgarden (Germany), to Rødby, a few km more to Frederiksværk than from Gedser, the crossing takes 45 minutes. Rødby is located on the island Lolland, which is connected to Falster via a tunnel (no toll), and from here the road is the same as from Gedser.

From Puttgarden: https://www.scandlines.dk/

Further west you have the border crossings Germany/Jutland. The main crossings from east to west are: Kruså (mainroad), Padborg (motorway) and Sønder Løgum/Tønder (mainroad).

https://www.google.dk/maps/place/Krusa,+Krus%C3%A5/@55.2129939,9.5877773,8.14z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x47b35cb8ed306b3b:0xe2138b5a3b7fe322!8m2!3d54.8415901!4d9.4023041

In between there are some small crossings, which are really small, but nice, roads. After crossing the border you have to go across Fyn to the Storebæltsbridge which lead to Zealand. The Storebæltsbridge is a toll bridge and it costs 130 DKK (ca. 17,5 Euro), for a motorcycle under 3m length. When finished it was the second longest suspension bridge in the world (it was expected to be the longest, but the Japanese were building one at the same time, which would be longer, and they were faster finnishing.

https://www.google.dk/maps/place/Storeb%C3%A6lt/@55.2512496,9.5641282,7.79z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x464d6823938381d7:0x2a26e3c3f9c23dae!8m2!3d55.3336849!4d10.9738827

The Storebæltsbridge: https://www.storebaelt.dk/

To get from the border to Fyn, you have two possibilities; you can go via the Lillebæltsbridge (motorway, no toll), or via Als, a small island on your right hand just after crossing at Kruså or Padborg. From Als there's a, not much known abroad I think, ferry between Fynshav and Bøjden on Fyn. From the border to Frederiksværk, there's around 300 km +/-, depending on which rute you choose.

The rutes I've put in above, are the shortest, fastest and most obvious, and mostly motorway, but of cause there's a lot of other rutes (except for the domestic bridges and ferrys), if you have the time and chooses to ride on the smaller roads.

If anyone wants to go seightseeing on their way through Denmark, you're welcome to share your ideas and wishes to attractions  on the Forum, and I'll try to help finding what's on your way.

Think it's unnessesary to advise you to bring your Passport with you, whatever you come from north, east or south  ;D

Thx, Bonne,
These are very useful information.  VCIF_ThumbUp
I have already bought tickets for the ferry that arrives in Karlskrona on June 7 in the morning, so I have practically all day to see some interesting place, could you recommend something worth visiting on the way?  (I known that it is mainly Sweden.)
I plan to visit Copenhagen and Nyhavn on the way back.

Hi Krzysztof.
When you've planned Copenhagen on the way home, I think it would be obvious to take the ferry Helsingborg - Helsingør on your way from Karlskrona to Frederiksværk. I don't know what your interests are, but when you arrive with the ferry to Helsingør, on your right hand (north), you have Kronborg, an old castle build there to control the entrance to Øresund (the water between Denmark and Sweden). You can read about the castle here:

https://www.visitnorthsealand.com/ln-int/kronborg-castle-gdk1077722

In Fredensborg you'll find Fredensborg Palace, the summer residence for the Royal Family:

https://www.visitnorthsealand.com/ln-int/fredensborg-palace-gdk620835

And in Hillerød there's Frederiksborg Castle, the biggest renaissance castle in Scandinavia, with The Museum of National History:

https://www.visitnorthsealand.com/ln-int/frederiksborg-castle-and-museum-national-history-gdk631258

Could be a route like this:

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/F%C3%A6rgen,+F%C3%A6rgevej+16B,+3000+Helsing%C3%B8r/Kronborg/Fredensborg+Slot/Frederiksborg+Slot/Frederiksv%C3%A6rk+Camping+og+Hostel/@56.0217475,12.1764709,11.05z/data=!4m32!4m31!1m5!1m1!1s0x465231140d573c21:0xccc71a50c7143180!2m2!1d12.6159097!2d56.0329135!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652310d8be4e5e3:0xc201c3cdc1f14036!2m2!1d12.6211552!2d56.0390142!1m5!1m1!1s0x465238e044f6de73:0x1e17188007b0d4fd!2m2!1d12.3957504!2d55.9825734!1m5!1m1!1s0x46524097762941e1:0x12c6a634246b6152!2m2!1d12.3012724!2d55.9349652!1m5!1m1!1s0x46526d2a5ab694d3:0xac672a3c28ba1b7a!2m2!1d12.014042!2d55.972055!3e0

Another possibility is to take the road on the north cost of Zealand, with it's nice fishing ports (Hornbæk and Gilleleje), and the wonderful beaches (e.g. Tisvildeleje):

I found this and } ] that and i will ride this route, on part bevor and one part after the VIM.
Hi Norbert.
The Marguerite Route is a nice road, as it'll bring you around all parts of Denmark and past many attractions and wievs on it's way. But be aware that it's small roads and it takes time riding it, but of cause, you can choose parts of it as you want to, to make it fit into your plans. I think that the GPX in the window at the right is a possibility to download the route to your GPS. I'll recomment that, as I live on the Marguerite Route, and know that some signs are missing here, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case elsewhere along the route  ::)

Hi Bonne,
Super, that's exactly what we wanted, the castles and the palace look great.  :)
I'm just wondering if we have enough time to visit them all.

Thanks, Krzysztof

Hi Bonne

Thanks for the feedback. I downloaded the GPX files and used it to create my own route. I leave Hamburg Altona (train) on the 30th of May and have to be back in Hamburg to the train one week after the VIM. So I have some time for the Margaritenroute.
Best regards

You could split it up and visit Kronborg Castle and Fredensborg Palace on the way to Frederiksværk. Kronborg Castle is open for visitors, while Fredensborg Palace only is open in Juli, caused by the Royals are living there, so at Whitsun you can only see it from the outside. Then you could either go to Hillerød and Frederiksborg Castle (21 km), during the weekend, or on you way to Copenhagen afterwards, depending on you other plans.
Plan your ride, ride your plan.
