One Varadero & CT joint ride to Aragon
« on: April 11, 2016, 17:02:07 »
Hello friends,

my mate Carles, who now owns my old Varadero, told me to go a day off with our bikes.
This day was finally last Saturday, and we decided to visit the area around the last km of the Ebre river within Aragon, just before it enters the S tip of Catalonia.

I hope you will like these pics.

We started by visiting again the Mausoleu of Favara

Since the end of last century, there's no longer peach trees, but a fence around it

Our bikes next to the Ermita de les Dues Aigües, in Nonasp

My two ladies  :) , present and former. This part of the river is known as "Mar de Aragon" (Aragon Sea), a 110 km long lake caused by the Mequinensa Dam.

The tip of the so-called "herradura de Caspe" (Caspe's horseshoe), a 7.5 km long peninsula in the Ebro river. My mate loves taking pictures.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rueda_Abbey, near Escatrón

I couldn't help trying a short off road diversion  ;D

Ermita de Montler. Nice views from it.

Salada (small salty lake) de Guallar, between Sástago and Bujaraloz.

Partial view of the largest "salada" of the area, where in older times salt was obtained.

And that's all. A highly recommendable area (not in summer!), with plenty of twisty and straight roads, and little to none traffic!

Greetings,

Josep

great pictures, enjoyed seeing those. New Zealand being a young country does not have any real history.

Looks like a great ride Josep  VCIF_ThumbUp
It would be nice to see a map of your route. Did you see my post about MyRoute-app? You can track where you have been with your mobile phone and mark where your pictures were taken. Here is a link of a track I did as an example:

It is easier to ask for forgiveness than to seek permission.

Sorry, I didn't read it. I am not aware that my 80€ mobile may have such capabilities  ???
And I've got no TomTom or Zumo.  ::)

The route? We went through the nice areas around Falset and Gandesa, not to be visited this time, and started in Favara (Fabara) de Matarranya, then Nonasp (Nonaspe), then N heading to the Ebro river, then to Caspe, Escatrón, Sástago, Bujaraloz and back to Tarragona. Some 430 km according to my mate.
This sparsely populated area is not far from the Motorland circuit.

Greetings,

Josep
