Hi, I just bought a 1999 Varadero, in fact I don't even have it yet, it is going to be shipped this week. ;D

Congratulations, this is the first model produced in Japan. If it was owned by an enthusiast, it is indestructible.

Congratulations for your new "old fashioned old style brute pre environmental regulations" beauty!

Unlike me, Bogdan does know what he talks about! He owns one, and keeps her as such a gem deserves 😄

I guess a bit more explanation might be in order.  I've had a 1999 Superhawk since it was new.  I love the motor, I love everything about it except any kind of distance is pure torture, especially since I am not getting any younger.  So, pretty much since I found out they were making an adventure bike with mostly the same motor, I wanted one, and was mightily dissapointed that it was available everywhere but here. Then I found this:

So, I have questions.  One thing I was unable to get from the dealer was any kind of provenance on this bike, I don't know how it got in the states in the first place.

JosepM

Nice!
At first glance, I can see a few mods. Handguards, crashbars, seat...
And may be a lowered front? (this could be not be the case)

Sure you'll enjoy riding her!

Imported from Canada Or ???.

That is one possibility, but it seems to have a speedo in miles, and I I thought all the Canuck bikes were in KM/h

Great news "I have the bike"
Not so great news, the shipper broke the windscreen:

So now I am in the market for a windscreen.  I have found some on eBay in Poland, are those ok?  Also, opinions on stock, touring or extra tall?

AND did the windscreens change at all during the run?  One of the eBay listings above lists 03-11, which makes me wonder...

The top and bottom ones are for the FI version that followed the carb version that you have.

"stock, touring or extra tall?" - What are you going to use the bike for ?

barrysuperhawk

Did the windscreen change when the bikes went Fuel Injection?  If so, that simplifies my choices.  I'm 5'11", and I intend to ride the tires off this thing.

JosepM

I am 177 cm tall (5'10"?).
My stock FI Varadero was ok for me. I could see above the screen but the air was sent to my helmet.

I would go for something taller, like my present AfricaTwin. More sensitive to wind, but you can ride with your helmet visor open. Also, when relaxed, you see the road through the bike screen, so you'd better keep it clean (unlike me)

Ok cool, I just ordered a "touring" windscreen (looks taller) from Poland, we will see how it goes...

Edit: I just got a message from the seller asking me what color I wanted? And I have no idea what the answer is because I didn't know that there was a color choice for the windscreen LOL. So I guess one could say that maybe this isn't going the best...

Second edit:  So, I bought the part using the ebay app on my phone, so it doesent automatically show the full description...so I didint know I was supposed to pick a color...  Yep, I am an idiot...

Welcome Barry. Check MRA Germany, they had an varioscreen for the SD01 Varadero. Make sure the original feulpump is replaced by either a Facet or a QH one.

I am 5´11´and I was using MRA with extension. It makes it good when raining, all water goes over you... and I have taller one for AT too...
