Scottoiler oil?
marcmacarthur:
Anyone have or use a Scottoiler. Mine came installed on my Vara. Interested to hear pros / cons. Also if anyone uses alternate oil in it?

I'm not sure that you realise what your asking here ;)
Opinions on Scotoilers go hand in hand with GPSs (tomtom Vs Garmin) , tyress, luggage, Screens etc.
The bottom line is that Scotoilers work but make the rear wheel and back of the bike mucky. Some people love them others swear by spray on lubes (normally carried with the bike and applied after a certain distance).
I suspect that the choice has more to do with personal preference than the performance of the chosen method.

I mounted the Scottoiler esystem last year on my 2009. I'm still on the oil that came with the kit and i'll probably buy the same kind when i run out.
My (bikes) hindquarter is clean as a whistle and i'm very happy with this purchase. The Scottoiler is not customized for the Varadero so i have temporary (permanently) fitted it by using tape and plastic strips.
The reservoir is placed under the seat but i would rather have it placed somewhere else to free the (to little) space under there. I would really appreciate some ideas of how to mount it :)

Same here but with caméléon oiler; We had some deal with them on french forum...
I have it on my last 2 varas, and I can notice a very much long life for the chain! Yes my rear wheel is rarely perfect , but absolutely not a problem for me.
I use chain saw oil, and it's perfect, because otherwise I have now to by oil in Canada, and it's a little bit too much complicate. ;)

My Dero came with a touring scottoiler fitted.
The one with the oil tank fitted behind the number plate. It took me a while to get the drip rate right and one odd thing about it (which other bikers have mentioned) is the outlet is mounted so it drips oil on to the chain just before it goes around the front sprocket. Not sure why previous owner decided to mount it like that but it definitely reduces flickage on the rear wheel.
