Alrighty - who's lining up to test ride one of these when they come to the market with a view to buying it.

I've already lined up with the NZ distributor to ride one of these before it even gets to my local dealer  VCIF_ThumbUp.  New Zealand is not looking to import the DCT version (correction, spoke with the NZ distributor and yes the DCT version is coming to NZ).

Cheers from downunder.

In Spain it's from 12700 (nothing else is said)
But this price is for the basic version, without abs or traction control.

What should I buy to replace my Vara?

Greetings,

Josep

I like the AT, looks like a great bike.  Waiting to get an opportunity to throw my leg over one to see how the geometry works for me (size).

Every single one!  ;D Seriously... since you ride 2-up with your lovely wife Consol, I would go for the ABS version in any case.

Same here. Still a bit worrying that it might be rather small compared to the Vara though... But hey, I started my bike carrier on a Transalp 600 and ended up owning tree in a row... Can't be smaller than that...  ;D

Bernard, certainly ABS is a must.  ;) And I did like DCT too when I had the chance to give it a try!  :)

To be honest, I don't think Consol and I make any more long trips  :-\ ... At most, extended weekends like the great one we had last May at VCIM  :)

With 208kkm, I believe my Vara will soon need an expensive investment (disks, clutch, valve adjustment,...), so I believe it'll be soon the time for her replacement. As a used bike is out of question, I narrowed down to an DCT equipped either  CT or  AT.

Let me summarize my points of concern:

-Weight. CT owners claim that it's not that much more than a Vara, and lower placed. But 30 kg less increase noticeably the off road capabilities and thus a number of tracks of my vicinity I used to enjoy years ago.
-Power. When I bought my Vara, I thought I had too much power on my wrist. Now I feel I'd appreciate a briskier throttle response... On the other hand, all my bikes have had more power than their preceeding ones.
-Tyre choice. There are not so many choices for AT's unusual 150-70/18...
-Chain. A nuisance, but a bearable one when you live in a dry climate.
-Ergonomy and comfort. No problem with CT. About AT, I don't think I have any with size, but its seat design and protection against wind are to be checked...

We'll see.

Regards,

Josep

Keep us posted Josep! Regarding power... you noticed like me, that the power output and display of the new AT are very much compatible with the Dero. But: 50kg LESS... (283kg for the ABS Dero, apr. 230 for the AT...

Tire issues will be resolved - I am sure about that.
And even in the wet Dutch climate my chain & sprockets last for 45.000km without the need of an auto oiler nonsense... I only use the Motul offroad chainlube from the spraycan and I NEVER clean the chain!

The only thing... it got tube tires. I would prever tubeless, but I can understant the choice for tubes on a 50/50 offroad bike.

JosepM, as you know I currently ride the CT.  I hold a slightly different view to some on this forum about the CT compared to the Varadero, we are all individuals and at the end of the day it does come down to personal preference.

I prefer the CT over the Varadero, the weight is lower down.  I find the CT easier to manage on unpaved roads compared to the Varadero and I simply do not miss the chain maintenance.  Some are concerned that the CT is smaller than the Varadero, but I do not notice that at all.  It suits me and my wife very well.  The motor is very nice, I love the V4 sound and 99% of the time I do not use all the available power.  Nice to have at your disposal when you want it though.

Having said all that, I can't wait to throw my leg over the AT.  I really like the look of the AT, the CT is too often confused for a beemer from a distance (they do sort of look similar).

The AT will definitely be better suited to the paved/unpaved combination of riding.

My view is if you ride almost solely on tarmac then you can't go wrong with the CT.  If you do a combination of paved and unpaved the AT will be very good.

Come to think of it - you can't go wrong with either  VCIF_ThumbUp, they're both good bikes.  Throw a leg over both and see which gets your heart throbbing  VCIF_salut

Hi Guys,
Long time, no speak from me – but then it’s been a long time waiting for the new AT. Looks a great bike to me too and I will be very keen to try out the DCT version. I had a NC750X DCT for a year and did 16,000km. Loved the DCT but eventually found the 50 Hp a little limiting for full day motorway riding (two days from Wales to Nice). I changed her for my current bike which is a Triumph Tiger 800XCx which I’ve had since the UK launch in April 2015. Now done 15,000km and love the bike – there seems to be quite a few similarities between the Tiger 800 XCx and the new Honda AT but I do miss that fantastic DCT which of course is now even better. I also plan to test ride it as soon as it arrives at my local dealer!  :D
Always heading for the mountains.

At my holidays on CT, over 5k done and still two weeks...

For these roads (Balkans) I would prefer AT  VCIF_salut

But CT rules on power, never ending torque and always more power available.
Current: HONDA CRF1000L Tricolor DCT
Honda NC700X DCT
