including pictures in your travel report
« on: September 10, 2014, 04:03:42 »
very nice JK !!!  ;D

(but please keep in mind http://www.vci-forum.com/index.php?topic=684.0 Thank you )

Sorry, beyond my knowledge. One says post pictures one says don't take space. I made an effort; if it's too big, dump it.

I've cleaned this topic by removing all double postings to keep it as clear as possible. But as mentioned by Zebulon, the forum servers are limited in working space and there for, the Admin Team strongly recommend to insert pictures to your topic which are hosted externally.

We understand, that not every one is a computer-internet wizzkid, so besides the explainations which are already done, I have tried to make a more simple overview.

Repeating the exercise is the only thing to get the job done... ;) Its advisable to use the 'PREVIEW' button before posting a new message with picture.

To How To publish a picture:

Put your pic on the internet by using a photo server / online photo gallery;  f.e. on Picassa, Smugmug, facebook gallery, Flickr, photobucket, etc

In the example below, I took a picture from my own photogallery on Smugmug.com:

Select the pictures URL by right clicking on the picture and select 'view image'. In the address line of your internet browser you now see the internet address where your picture is located.

For example this pic from my own gallery http://varaderointernational.smugmug.com/Other/Ireland-UK-part-II-2013/i-ncJ7XRF/0/M/20130509%20%2827%29-M.jpg

To illustrate:

Select the 'insert image' button on the 2nd row from above, first button
Insert the pictures URL between the <IMG> </IMG> tag

Hit the preview button if you are not sure that it works ok. The picture has to have the extension (format) *.JPG, *.BMP or *.PNG to be used and to be visible at our forum.

Everything OK?
Post!

Let me know if I can help!

Yes!! Nice job!  ;D

You can remove the [ url=http:// ]  [ /url ] tags.

There is not easy resizing possibility here, you have to send on server the right dimension.  ;)

Sometimes including dimensions like this [img(300px,200px)] for 300 pixel large and 200 high in the tag is working...  ???

I still have problems with this.  I'm using dropbox, but I still have trouble getting the picture onto this forum.

Here's my attempt, I can only get this working by sharing the URL link, which shows the whole folder, not just the photo I want to share?

Dropbox is not the best way to share pics. I cannot show you with iPad , but if nobody do it before, I try to come back tomorrow  with a computer  ;)

Many thanks, had my first play with this software today.  I've now written my first trip report, such that it is, but at least I'm getting photos to post.  Cheers my friend   8)

For what it's worth, I've found that a width of 800 pixels seems to be about the best for forum viewing, on this and most other forums with 2015 equipment. Whether someone has a laptop, desktop, or iPad type device, this will not force them to scroll horizontally.

If there's a picture you think folks with bigger screens might like to see a larger view of, 1200 pixel width is quite good. You can make this available (here on VCIF) without making two versions quite easily. Size your image for the larger screen and save the jpeg. When you do the picture link, do it like this:
Code: [Select]
[img width=800]http://www.site.com/your_picture.jpg[/img]This will show the picture at a width of 800 and scale the height appropriately (so you don't have to do all the math), and if someone clicks on it, they'll get the full size version. ;) Unfortunately, this BBCode is not supported on all forums, but it's really convenient here.
