wow,

Georgep, that is amazing theory,
but i must confess that i like better  the cct theory  :)

i already ordered that part, i was amazed to see that it cost me the same as it cost at europa, anyway, after putting the new one we we will be able to say which one wins.

Thinking you should replace both.
The higher one sounds less but is also in its way to give up.

Agreed.  I would also rather change both at the same time. If not you'll have to return soon enough to replace the second one and that seems like a waste of time..

there is no way i leave my baby to those mechanics with all the respect.

the only decent places i have seen her are the BMuus which maintaining a high service quality, the rest are simple butchers

the parts didn't even arrived yet.

Lol!! Wish I could say the same!   ...I would more than likely cause more damage by trying to do it myself. I do try my hand at easier tasks though,  so gradually itry doing a little more. Being able to get expert advice from the forum members really help me in getting enough courage to reach further.

So,  after 4 weeks i got the parts and yesterday I replaced the front cct with a new one.
I notisted that the original one works as it should be.  I took out the rear one and it looks fine

Today I ride it and still have the noise.  I think it is a bit different. It sounds like it is now in lower rpm But i need to ride it more to be sure.

The ongoing story re cct …………..
Basically your engine is a VTR 1000 Firestorm. And they to have cam chain tensioner problems as well.Order two new adjusters(i think about 60-80 quid/euro 75/100 each with gaskets)as there is one on each cylinder head. They come preloaded, with a little tool to keep them set until you release them. The tool can also be used to reset them,or a very thin screwdriver(wind them back in if necessary). They are situated between the cylinder heads, opposite the intakes. They are held in place by two 5 or 6mm allen bolts or with yours being so early it could have two 8mm bolts.I would fit both at the same time.Once fitted and released, take the 30mm centre cap out of the generator cover. Then put a 14mm socket on the generator bolt on a T-bar(that's on the end of the crankshaft)and rock the crank back and forth. If you listen while you are doing this you will hear the ratchets on the tensioners taking up the slack on the chains.Replace the centre cap,and start it up.I myself would also do a oil change and filter before start up,just to keep everything fresh

Hi all.
Question; is this problem with ccts across all models, or just the carbie ones.
Reason is, I am doing a few jobs on my recent purchase and I was wondering if I should replace them as a matter of course. Its a 2004 FI  with 50k miles on it.

Cheers
Rusty

Only the chain tensioner from the first registration - 1999 - had the problem that the spring was designed too weak in the chain tensioner and so often (usually around the 40tkm) crumbled. At the end of the 1999 reinforced chain tensioner were already installed.
