Yesterday we went to my mother's place for a Christmas lunch:

-starters (small toasts with salmon, cheese, anchovies,...)

-Christmas soup (with "galets" and small meatballs)

-Tradition says some luxury poultry, but my mother made "sarsuela" instead

-Pineapple&lemon sorbet and "torrons"

Today it's "Sant Esteve". So we are about to go my in-law's to have a similar lunch.
And next year, the other way round  :)

Bon profit,

Josep

I cooked Roast Rib of Beef, Yorkshire Puddings, Roast Potatoes, mixed "roast" of parsnip, beetroot, onion, celery, carrots and gravy
Pineapple and ice cream, traditional English Christmas Cake (fruit cake) with various cheeses ....and, of course, some beer, wine and port etc.
Our two boys are with us so a good day was had by all
I'll add photos later ...maybe

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

P.S. Jasper got his new Barkbusters Hand Guards so I'll fit them over the next few days

Every second year (this year), most of my wifes family are meeting for Christmas at her sisters place in Copenhagen. We get the traditional danish Christmas dinner, which contains:

1. Starter...actually there´s no starter, exept for a beer or to  ;)

2. Main: roast duck and pork roast with white potatoes, brown potatoes (small potatoes fried in caramelized sugar with a bit of butter), potato chips, boiled red cabbage, boiled half apples with redcurrant jelly and brown sauce (made of the gravy from the duck and the pork), served with redwine.

3. Dessert: Ris a la mande, which, despite the french-sounding name, is a danish dessert made of cold porridge of rice with vanilla mixed with chopped almonds and whipped cream, served with cherry sauce and Port. A tradition is that there are one almond in the dessert that´s not chopped and the one who finds it gets a present. So, you´ll have to eat until it´s found  ;).

After the dinner we dance (read: walk) around the Christmas tree singing Christmas Carols and afterwards we get our Christmas gifts which was "hidden" under the tree.

Later we´ll have coffee with sweets and maybe a Cognac, or, in this case, Whisky (Ardbeg Ten years ;D)

These pictures are not from this Christmas, but from another occasion:

Sorry, no photo: all eaten. Starter; Cold Guinness for cook. Smoked salmon and prawns with home made mayonnaise and drops of home grown lemon juice (courtesy of my mother-in-law). Main course; roast turkey crown, mini chipolata sausages and 'pigs-in-blankets, with roast potatoes with onions, roast parsnips, Yorkshire puddings, savoy cabbage, carrots, and gravy, to lubricate. The Christmas pudding dessert went un-eaten.
After the Guinness, the wine was a tarty claret and madame supped a few Bailey's.

Sorry Athanman but I'm trying to put weight on!

Jack.
PS. The smaller of our cats just dragged a turkey leg to the door; I don't think he killed it himself.

Sorry, no pictures.
All is eaten here, too.
And - Athanman - that's why I need to diet.
The target is <100 kg before VIM, and that means I have to get rid of >20 kg.

Our Christmas meal is quite similiar to the traditional Danish - except for the brown potatoes.
Pork ribs with crispy skin, pork meat balls and sausage. Served with gravy, cooked potatoes, sauerkraut, Brussels sprout and lingonberry jam.
We drink Aquavit (oh yes - the famous Potato Juice) and Christmas beer.
For the dessert we use almost the same as Bønne, but I have imported the Danish style with almonds, cherries and Port.

The two other traditional Norwegian Christmas meals are "Lutefisk" (dried codfish prepared in a potash lye, served with melted pork rib fat, bacon, mashed peas, sweet brown cheese, mustards and cooked potatoes) or "Pinnekjøtt" (rack of dried, salted lamb ribs).
See you deep in a German forest ;)
