Some knowledge about Denmark:

Denmark is a small Scandinavian country between Germany and Norway/Sweden, with around 5,8 mill. of citizens. Denmark consists of the peninsula Jutland (Jylland), and 443 named islands, the biggest ones are Zealand (Sjælland), Northern Jutland (NordJylland), and Fyn (Fyn).

The danish national flag is called "Dannebrog", it is red with a white cross and it is the oldest national flag that´s still in use.

The country is one of the worlds oldest monarchies, dating around 1200-1300 years back, but in connection with the revolutions around Europe in 1848, which led to the adoption of a new Constitution June 5th., 1849, the monarchy was reduced to a constitutional monarchy, as the Constitution led to a separation of powers; the Government, the Parliament and the Courts.

The capital of Denmark is Copenhagen (København), which is located at the east of Zealand.

In the past, the Vikings made a living from warfare and plundering, but also trading as far away as the Mediterranean Sea and Central Asia. Later, the danes became farmers and fishermen, but trading with the nabours kept on. In the 19th. century the industry started to grow, and today Denmark is know worldwide for big companies like e.g. Maersk, Lego, Novo and Carlsberg.

Famous Danes: H.C. Andersen: writer, Carl Nielsen: composer, H.C. Ørsted: physicist, Victor Borge: comedian and pianist.

This was a short description of Denmark, so if it, together with the fact that the 21th. Varadero International Meeting will be held here, has caught your interest, then you´re welcome to write your name in this topic, and we´ll make a (not binding),
