Confirmed: ALL Africa Twins will receive a 24L feulcapacity and upgrade to 1100cc by 2020!

New information regarding the new 1100 Africa Twin is slowly emerging: 3 trims, L1 (Standard), L2 (Adventure Sport) and L4 (Adventure Sport Touring). Expected prices (Dutch list prices incl VAT): L1 17k, L2 21k, L4 22k. (Euro). L4 will be available full specs with full automatic suspension and quickshifter (DCT).

Pics look AWESOME. Black version with gold rims is an absolutely beauty.. Pictures as published in this topic are only remotely close to the 'Real McCoi'.

I'd like to see a lighter 700cc version myself.

Inside information: The Africa Twin receives this 'upgrade' to make room for a lighter version which could compete with the new Teneré T7.
It will be a twin too, rumors are speaking about a Transalp successor.

What ever they do, I will not be buying one. I am sticking with my AT, the only thing I need to swap out at some point are the front forks for premature internal wear. Cheaper to swap these out than trade in on a new bike and begin the customization all over again!

Damn I just hate Yamaha and Honda, since years instead of making distinct and lasting models they keep changing stuff every 1 or 2 years, I would also love something
lighter but damn I don't want to shove money in it every 2 years !!!

But I still prefer my 2017 AT style overall, it's just seeing this T700 or the KTM 790 ADV and their low weight, makes me envious !

Depending how much kils you put on it each year; think after our "Arctic Baltic tour" and rides during the summer, mine approach or exceed 60 000, certainly time to change ...  8)

I love my AT but I'd be tempted to get one if it were smaller - 500/650/750/800 and lighter with similar characteristics to the current AT. An under 400 pound bike (180 kg) would be more versatile, still a good tourer, and much more manageable offroad.

Inside information: The Africa Twin receives this 'upgrade' to make room for a lighter version which could compete with the new Teneré T7.
It will be a twin too, rumors are speaking about a Transalp successor.

Soon doing the 24'000km service and this years I'll be going to work with my 2 bikes, about 2100km per month so total with road trips I should be around 23K more and since it's
a 2017 I guess it's allready no worth much more, it's just annoying to think because of this you loose money or change model and pray they don't again change within 2 years...

Quite agree, Sunday I was attending Swissmoto the motorcycle brands and manufacturers yearly presentation in switzerland and
I have to say I'm still in love with my AT.
Saw new V-strom still ugly and horrible saddle, new Tenere 700 omg it's not up to Yamaha standards of details and finish in my book,
new multistrada look weird and so huge horrendous beige, Triumph are morphing into BMuus it's all strange modern design with tablets
they lost their English roots to me and of course BMuu still costing 2 testicles and not reliable.

Was only impressed by 2, KTM 790 adventure but yeah KTM prices and issues with so much orange I'll pass, but the Guzzi V85 looks
and feels very nice it's perfect mix of retro design and italian taste with current tech, I might try that as my Honda dealership is also
endorsing Guzzi.
Though lighter it's said to only do 80Nm and 80Hp, but interesting one.

So my trusty AT as still all the boxes ticking, I think I can live with it quite a while !

Looking forward to your experiences with the Guzzi. Very appealing bike. Unfortunately if you are tall and 'long legged', there is simply no room for your knees due to the engine layout...  :-[

Weird I didn't notice that, I'm 1m83 and even with the AT saddle high I can flat foot fine, but I'm not sure I'd switch to the Guzzi, it's barely lighter and makes 15nm less, I'll try but I think I'll miss the Honda's pull.

Also I love my AT don't want to crash it, but I don't know there's something about this bike even when you offroad, I'm never really aprehensive or scared to scratch it.
When I saw the Guzzi, first thing I thought is nice Ducati like finish and design it's magnificent and so, God I think I'd cry if it would get scratched or fall  ??? So might not be the adventure bike in this sense, or that's just me.

For instance not too much information from Honda france ... the only model which will evolute would be the Adventure and no change for the "basic-normal" model ...  8)

On an other hand have heard about a more equipped Adventure model with piloted suspension (based on Showa EERA), speed regulator, perhaps tubeless rims option ...
as usual: wait and see (perhaps Milan or Tokyo  ...)

And where is the often talked about adventage concearning the weight CRF1100L to XT1200Z (Super Ténéré) ?

XT 1200 Z with Kardan, 1200 ccm and 23 litres fuel capacity is 267 kg,

AT 1100 L without DCT, with chaine, 1100 ccm and 24 litres is 262 kg.

Now they are playing in the same leaque.

Wait and see when we have it beetwin our legs ... Have seen much more AT then XTZ at the Stella... 21" front wheel is a real advantage !  VCIF_ok but yes I love it's ease because of the weight...
And surely if Honda increase the displacement is to push a smaller bike under ...

The advantage, Rainer? Well, not that difficult... Its a Honda.

Funny that you seems to know the weight of a yet to be introduced bike for which only is known that engine capacity and feul capacity increases.

And even Yamaha riders keep hanging around on a HONDA forum and a HONDA community... which make sence... After all, you meet the nicest people on a HONDA!  VCIF_salut

Honda are funny guys, they say lighter, yes it is but really almost 238Kg, basically my now 230Kg bike with 5L canister still is lighter by a few hairs !

BTW Honda XLV750R is 189 Kg but dry, it's 220Kg wet and makes 61 hp not 70, but I like it's looks these were the times !

I'll be more interested by a 800cc that's more around 200Kg, because after now 32'000Km and again going to Croatia soon, I'm a bit fed up when suddenly there's a slight ditch in the ground or downslope and I need to use all my body weight and force to haul the AT out of parking spots... last time with 40 Kg packed on it, honestly I allready feel old  :-[ !

Ahhh and cruise control Honda !!!

How stupid is Honda, Adventue gets tubeless, but STD gets tubes  har_scratch really !?

To me this is all "show" and nothing crazy I didn't need more electronics and just 6hp, seems also the 5Kg weight reduction is achieved by simply using a LiIon battery... because I checked that's rougly the weight saving against the Led battery, I must say I find this rather disappointing, only cruise control would be nice.

Hp or kW does not move your bike it is the torque.

Tubeless rims and some other stuff explains the price difference.

You cannot save 5 kg by changing the battery, it doesn't even weight 5 kg. Maybe you mixed with lb? They explained change of chassis etc which makes some weight saving.

Indeed Lbs my bad, still my point stands, it's like 60% of the weight saving so not impressed and yeah I know about the torque, 10Nm is also hardly a game changer, when you have smaller displacement bikes, 60-70Nm is a big improvement here it's just 10%, I'll argue this will be minute on a still 238Kg machine.
One of my biggest peeves, after 34'000Km is the front brakes are too squishy, they could have upped a bit the specs, but they didn't.

Of course for people not having original 2016-2018 ATs, this is all good, but I don't see myself upgrading.

Not heard about this sensation by all AT owners I've seen... My opinion (coming from Varadeos) it is biting and dosable in off-road conditions. Perfect for me; I 'be just read this evening about new Tenere/AT brakes, everybody prefer the AT's one ...

Sometime it's just time to change the bike , when this one change , it can be an upgrade...  :-X

Well imagine, I am also riding my 2013 Fazer 8, so old non radial 4 piston calipers on dual 310 discs and it brakes much shorter and dosage is miles better, therefore I bought aviation lines but thanks Swiss rules, they aren't homologated and I can't install them at all...

So if anyone wants specifically made steel braided brake lines for cheap, let me know !

Well I'm sure they'll see models nontheless, I'm not worried for them, just seems like a bit of an Identity crisis !

You know before switching to Triumph, I looked at what Honda had in the 800cc, I was tempted by the crossrunner, but then I realised it's 242 freaking Kg, I mean does anyone know a 800 that heavy, it's totally outdated !? Honda definitely have a hole in their lineup there and I think many people would buy a lighter 800, in a heartbeat, they could do a revamped transalp and with same platform a new crossrunner at the same time, just like Yamaha has wisely done with several platforms, but seems they prefer selling NC750s those ugly and boring bikes, so weird !

This too, we feel good, but it is especially the gain of torque that is felt...The Africa Twin has also become a very lively machine...In terms of weight and maneuverability, it seems like the bike lost 100cc instead of winning them...The Africa Twin excels on many levels and does not disappoint on any..."

when i let my bike to my dealer, he oftently lend me a Xrunner; it's absolutely not a funny bike IMO ...  :(
If they begin to hear about customers (sic)  ;D sure they work rapidly on a "new Transalp"  ::)

Honestly, since many years and all the modern Hondas I have tested, I found only the AT to be fun, Hondas
were never fun if you ask me, the opposite from Yamaha actually, once tested the Crosstourer and while it's
powerfull, it left me totally uninspired  ;)  kind of like BMuus!

Have not been on this site for a while.
I have looked at the new models and even looked at selling the AT and getting something quite different.
But I have decided to stick with my AT for a bit longer. It is nicely set up now for riding one or two up. The cheapest option is stay with my bike.
