Riders experiences with the new CRF1000 Africa Twin
« on: January 19, 2016, 21:41:37 »

As a VIP for Honda Company in Israel (during the last 18 years I have made 18 trade in of Honda motorcycles including 6 scooters, one TransAlp, 8 Varaderos and 3 Cross Tourers. As a self employed and since the bike is my only work transportation,  I make something like 50K kms a year, I find it convenient to have a new bike every year).
Today  I was invited for the introduction of the new Africa Twin in Israel. Only motorcycle newspapermen were invited and two or three VIP like me.
The day included lectures about the bike, a rich breakfast and 20 minutes of road and offroad riding on the bike.
Since I am a poor offroad rider I did not want to take the chance of falling on the dirt with a new bike with all the newspaper men around, so I chose to ride only  onroad.
I felt quite comfortable with the bike, My personal impression is that the bike should not to be compared to the Crosstourer for road driving only. The Crosstourer is stronger for this purpose and more rugged and I at the end of the day did not feel any urge to  have the Africa twin as my only bike . But if you want a Bike that is good for onroad and offroad then Africa twin is the choice.

Tnx for the feedback, Jack! But I have one Q left: how does the new bike in your modest opinion, compare to the Varadero? And which version did you ride? DCT or non-DCT?

I think it was a non-DCT any way I remember changing gear during the test. As for Varadero compare I would say that the Varadero is heavier and in my personal opinion more dignified.

Or, as a guy once said when I told him about my experience with the Varadero. When I said: it´s just got something that I can´t explain, I don´t know what it is..., he looked at it and asked: testosterone??? Yes, I think that´s it!!!

I have experience with Vara and CT, now also AT!

It was pretty easy to ride, with DCT, but weather was wet so no chance to have much lean angle. It was slipping with full throttle at speed of 120, obviously the oem tires are BAD!

By the way, I made my order!
Current: HONDA CRF1000L Tricolor DCT
Honda NC700X DCT
Past: Honda VFR 1200 X Crosstourer / Honda SLR 650 / HONDA XLV 1000 Varadero / Honda XR 650 R / KTM 640 LC4 / Honda CB1100 / Yamaha XJ 850 / Honda CB 500 1977...

Prob bridgestone for the road trips (guessing now), for the offroad press trips the bikes where equipped with TKC's 80.
