Anakee 3 or PR4T

Hi there,

changing my Anakee 3 front soon, may go for Pilot Road 4 Trail just to try it out. Michelin ok'ed mixing them.

How would a PR4T handle dirt on tarmac? Would a tyre that is partly for off road score more points here?

Yep, I see all sorts of stuff on the road, this morning it was a hell lot of oil on a roundabout, gravel and sand close to a building site.

I don't believe any tyre works on oil, sand or loose gravel as you described**
Unfortunately, it's really down to rider observation, skill, timing and ......luck

** I'd rather ride a gravel/dirt road than come across these combinations on asphalt roads

P.S. You forgot to add some rain for lubrication and to increase the excitement

Oil you are right, certainly agree on the looking, thinking and planning ahead part, too. Some tyres react better to a few bits of gravel then others though.

I am still confused if I should go for one tyre or the other. There are other aspects that are important to me.

- Wet grip

- Predictable, progressive cornering (meaning the bike doesn't fall into a corner but leans in progressively with input - very tyre dependent)

- high speed stability

- miles I get out of it


The Anakee 3 I had on it was flawless in all situations and perfect for me, but for just 10 Pounds more I am wondering if the newest, latest and greatest Chez Michelin could do even better.

I have only fell on paved road with Anakees, but I did TWICE until I changed them

Sorry don't know what you mean. You fell down with the Anakees? Or you ride only on Tarmac with them?

Bear in mind that Anakee2 and Anakee 3 are totally different.

fell with Anakees and only with Anakees... yes, they were anakee II

@djcat    re: cornering. My Anakee 3s have over 14k kms and only in the last 3-4k have I noticed a change when going into and around the twisties  ...but they're still predictable (if only because you know what to expect)

Years ago in the UK, the Avons had a very round profile but the Dunlops were very triangular...and had completely different cornering characteristics

As you said, these tyres seem almost perfect. I don't really want to try any others in case I would be disappointed
...although the Heidenau tyres have my interest ...maybe next time?

Last week i put on Anakee 3 on both and it feels like the varadero is more "a life" 
I remember that feeling on my CBR Fireblade when i put on new tyre, but i have never felled it on the vara.
As i can see, the tyre is fixed in line..
So now i just wont to hear if this is good or bad??
It`s like he is over-steering in some kind..
I have 2,8 bar in both tyre.. (i allways have that pressure in my tyre).

Is it because this tyre is more "round" or what can it be?

2,8 bars in front sounds a little 2 much. Have 2,5 in front and 2.8 in rear if its fully loaded.

I had the same kind of 'strange feeling' when I made the first trip on my brand new PR3. They felt like they had far too much pressure, extremely hard and very round.
Normally I have 2,5 at front and 2,8 at rear. Decreased the pressure a bit. Feeling seems to have gone now (or did I got used to it?) and I've increased the pressure again to my standard values.

I have never felt it on Anakee 2, but as Madero says : did I got used to it?

Decreased the pressure in front i`ll test, and see if it will past 
So maybe after the trip to Geiranger the vara would be like nothing happens

@ Madero. I too had that weird feeling, I assume it's because there is NO 'Squaring off' on the new tyres but I never noticed it with other tyres.

I just ordered 2 new ANAKEE 3 tires for my bike. I really wanted to P3 Trails but I wouldn't be able to get them until next year so I went with Anakee. I currently ride with Metzeler Tourance, I'm really hoping I enjoy the Anakee 3's...

Not on a Michelin. I always used slighly higher pressure on both the good old Michelin T66 (x) and the Annakee.

Average 2,7 rear / 2,4; 2,8 and 2,5 loaded (travelling with full luggage)

The parts guy wanted to sell me H rated tires (speed rating) but I think original equipment was a V-rated I pushed for getting the V-rated and he hesitantly obliged. Would this community agree with me or does it not matter?
