I had a to look at the pictures a few times to figure out what he was doing.

He's being lazy, cunning and clever all at the same time. Changing the valve stem oil seals without taking off the cylinder head. The main problem being preventing the valves from dropping down (hence the air pressure) and accessing the valve cotters without the ease of access provided by a normal valve spring compressor.

On Saturday I got the new chain drawn through by locking it together with the old one and then turn the engine. Put the new "liquorices" and O-rings in place and then mounted the camshaft consoles and the camshaft. But as my son was not at home, I had to wait riveting the chain, as I needeed help to do that:

So now the timing is done, the chain has been riveted, everything is torque tightened, the valves are adjusted and a new gasket for the cover is ready:

And then the cover is in place again, with a new oil seal for the tachometer gear. The small cover on the top will be mounted right, when the engine is in the frame again, but that may take a day or two  ;D :

Had a talk with Michael, the guy I mentioned who restores old Hondas and saw his bikes. He´s now build his own small museum with door and windows directly from his livingroom, so when walking around/sitting in the livingroom, he can look out on his restored bikes ;D.

Right now he´s restoring an old XL 250, one of the first real offroad bikes Honda build. He´d just got the fueltank back from the painter, Honda grey with the original red stripes, it looked like a brand new one, great job!

He promised to speak to his painter about painting my frame and parts, so now the rest of the bike is dismounted and made ready for sandblasting next week, I´ve made an appointment with the guy who sandblasted and metalized my Africa Twin, Michael uses him too  :)

Here´s a picture of the parts that´s going to be sandblasted and painted:

And the rest, which is going to be cleaned up and checked out before mounted again. There will be some purchase of miscellaneous parts on the way, new rubber grommets and so on ;D

Update:

During the week, the new exhaust, Motad 4-into-1, Stainless steel, appeared. Similar to the 10 year old one, except that the old one is chromed and not so pretty anymore:

Together with a lot of rubbers, grommets, cushions, gaskets, o-rings, springs, a new head light lamp and 4 spark plugs:

Friday I picked up the frame and parts from sandblasting, everything seemed to be in good condition...

... except for the rear fork, which he had blown two holes in...  :o

Luckily CMS in Holland had still got three in stock, so a new one is ordered.  ;D

Today I was at a swapmeet, where I talked to Michael, the guy restoring old Hondas. He will speak to his painter and call me during next week.

Wow, you really make some progress here! Wasn't the original a 2x2 exhaust? From the older models I knew they are... Not sure about yours though.

Thank you. Yes, thank God for CMS in Holland and DavidSilverSpares in England!

Of cause, I could have chosen to repair it, but how good would the rest of it be? It rusts from the inside, so nobody knows. Or, I could have bought a used one, but again, which condition would that be in when sandblasted?

So, I chose to buy a new one, then I know it´s okay, after all, it is a quite important part of the bike!

No, the original was 4-into-4 system as on the earlier 750 K´s and 500 models, but another design than the others:

The earlier K models, this is a 1969, early 1970 model:

The F models were fitted with an original 4-into-1 system, but not the same, here the F1:

And the F2, the first Honda with ComStar wheels. The K´s and the F1 models all had 67 HP, but the F2 had 72, this mainly came from another camshaft, other pistons and the exhaust:

Finally my new rear fork arrived from CMS in Holland. It´s brand new, but 40 years in stock has given it some scratches and scrapes, so it has to be repainted.
But instead of just sending it to me, they send me some pictures first of the scratches and asked if I was still interested. Then we had a conversation about it and came to an agreement of a reasonable discount, great service from CMS  VCIF_ThumbUp.

So, the frame and parts are back from the painter. It took some time, but the result is perfect, really a great job he´s been doing, so that´s okay with me.

Now there´s a big patience consuming work lying in front of me, getting the bike assambled again without scratching anything ;D
