Speedo fault on a 2012 xl1000
« on: July 15, 2014, 15:38:27 »
Well as you ride through Europe on your bike, the speedo fails, all the fuel management gauges drop and your left playing fuel bingo? No problem, ill simply ring Honda on my return and they will fix it under warranty........ oh dear sir, its two weeks out they reply!

So option a, take it in to Honda garage and get robbed!
B, gamble on it being the sensor from the gearbox, pay£200 and cross my fingers?
C, ask on the forum if anyone knows a way i can test the sensor prior to going for opt B.
              D. Ask if anyone has a used working sensor i could purchase for a fair price.

              Kind regards, very miffed...... NE/UK

I've got a model 2012 dash for sale, since my bike came from the UK I nagotiated the kmh dash in the deal. So I still have the UK unit in original box. PM me for details. Will make you a fair price.

Discussed this at the mechanic's today. He revises his opinion and thinks it's the gearbox sensor which appears to have an amount of oil   around it. It's still intermittent but I did notice today that the odometer and associated trips also go down as with Freex2UK's. The sensor is a magnetic pick-up whick counts teeth in the gearbox and shouldn't cost what Honda ask for one.

Don't want to spoil your sale Bernard but your dash will sell well anyway I should think.

JK
PS Mine went on the blink at <10,000 km.and less than 2 years old. I must ring Honda tomorrow but I don't hold much hope.

@TP I think they want to discourage sales to  preserve resources for MGP.

Do you think I should try and trade inn for this one if it's still there?

They are not mad ... they are a$$h@%es!! I refuse to pay a fortune in order to buy a genuine Honda part. Many after market products can be easily fitted and costs half price from the genuine that Honda sells.

Well to finalise this issue, the part i ordered was wrong, but the company took it back.
Then by pure chance chatting to a friend, it turns out he had some input with Honda! He then made a phone call and within a short period Honda contacted me to undertake the fix, as a good will gesture, as the bike was only 2weeks out of warranty!
It was the sensor from the gearbox, part and labour would have been about £350.
So lets see how long it lasts this time.
Thanks Honda  ;)
