Finally
« on: April 18, 2014, 18:21:11 »
So finally spring has sprung in the lowermainland of British Columbia.
Nice little 600 km loop last weekend through the local mountains.

Still a lot of snow up high

But once reaching the interior it's always dry.

Nice to be back on the road again..

Wonderful!
We don't have that kind of mountainviews over here in The Netherlands!

Enjoy your rides and keep the rubber down.
Thanx for sharing!

Fully agree with you Bernard! Both Canada and New Zeeland are beautiful places to have a wonderful biking holiday! Will probably remain a dream forever........... :-\

Instead we can have the same kind of great experience in beautiful Scandinavia, which lies just "round the corner" for us Dutchmen  ;D

Just a couple of weeks to go and we'll be heading for Geiranger!

Nice pictures!

For some reason, I thought that BC was all fjords and mountains.
And lots of rain and snow, that made everything very white or green all year round. Where is this "dry" BC?

Greetings,

Josep

Generally speaking it's only wet and green on the coast.. Once you get inland to the east you're in the lee of the coast mountains and it's quite dry.

Then as you go further east it dampens up again as you get out of the rain shadow.

Most of my local riding is 800 to 1000 km days traversing these coastal mountains.

You lucky B***** ;D
....I also have the pointed mounted and fjords ...but as Silver D notes it tends to be "WET" up on the North West Coast ...quack, quack
It's still fairly cool up here (5C, windy and wet). Mountains are still covered with snow and there was a fresh sprinkling a couple of days ago ....I'm sure it's just to keep them looking pretty
Also, there are essentially no roads along the "fjords" ...have a look at a map of Northern British Columbia ...you will see only a couple of roads
Vancouver, Okanagan and Kootenay (best riding area) are 1500kms from my place ...so it's a good two days riding
I hope the "Netherlanders" don't get altitude sickness ...

No worries Jasper. The Dutch are in average, the tallest population on the Planet. So we are used to live in high altitute... where the air gets thin...  ;D ;)

So, FINALLY, I got out for a long run, fairly cool but at least the sun was shining with blue skies ...and I took my camera so here are a few shots of my local roads ...not many roads but mountains, rivers, lakes, curves and bears (sorry never have time to get camera out for the bears (1 grizzly and a mother black bear with two cubs)
I still can't seem to post the "big pictures"???
