Stella Alpina 2017
« on: July 11, 2017, 13:54:56 »
A long time I look at this meeting, but I thought it was to difficult for me with a varadero - yes I know a few have done, but I'm not a pilot.
So (as here) asked on some forum if some people are interested , meet also some friend in the Touratech French event , so decided to go; some hesitation due to the weather, but we meet there!  VCIF_ThumbUp

down from Echelle pass

Over Bardoneccia beginning of the track, with a lot of dust

arriving bivouac place

after the storm, Michel prepare the" fondue"  VCIF_ThumbUp

old bikes

And strange ones, a French one done with Citroen GS motor

or one you can go in torrent with

evening is time for mechanics

Sunday morning is time to go up to Sommeiller pass (3009 m osl) despite the rain

Pass is there !

Stunning!

Arrived !  VCIF_ok

just have to go down now  ;D

A wonderful week end with a lot of friendship and mutual aid; I have meet one of our old friends from VIM14 in Tarragonna  VCIF_ThumbUp

Thanks for sharing, great photos. Looks like you had a great time in spite of the weather and of course you had the best bike to ride the pass on.  Cheers...

Did the Stella Alpina in 1985, `86, `87 and `88.
In `85 to the top on a CB 900 Bol D`or with package  ;D
At that time there was a weather station at the top, that´s where this picture is taken from:

In `86, `87 and `88 to around 1800 m. on respectively CB 900 Bol D`or, Kawasaki Z 750 B2 parallel twin and CB 750 K7 (the one I still have)... without package, but now with passenger.
Plan your ride, ride your plan.

Was the road better when there was still the refuge at the top ?

Was the road better when there was still the refuge at the top?
No, it was quite rocky and muddy with snowmelt running down the road. In fact, the second year on the CB 900, I got a bulge in one of the exhaust front pipes from a rock ;D

At that time you could only go to the top every fourth or fifth year, I was told by Mario Artusio, the founder of the meeting, the other years there was to much snow. Seemed to be right, as it was only the first of the four times I got to the top. Don´t know how that is today, but the weather has changed, I can see, back then we had the finest sunny weather all four years.
Plan your ride, ride your plan.
