Some yeas ago Phil (silver fox) had a similar problem.  I investigated and found that a 5mm hole drilled up from under the rear mudguard, allowed you to push up a thin screwdriver and unlatch the seat.  I told Phil the exact spot to drill and it worked.
I have forgotten the exact position and I no longer have a Varadero to find out!
Perhaps a 'search' would help?

Jusst had a thought!   Try pushing very hard down on the seat at the back as you try to unlock the seat. :-\

If everything else fails then the only options are to gain entry via the mudguard or drill out the lock.

The lock is not that expensive to replace but it would mean a different key to the ignition.

I gave the bike for 36k service, they fixed it and didn't even mention it... is it common problem?

I'm not sure if it is a common problem, but I had difficulty opening my seat the other day.  Whatever it was, it has gone away, seat is operating properly again  ???
