I've just done oil change with Shell Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40 (JASCO MA) & Hi-Flo filter (#204)
Weather is warming up today and the snow is melting ...so I can see myself getting the insurance sometime this week
I was going to insure this weekend, but then it rained all weekend. I'll likely do it next weekend regardless of the weather. I use the same oil and filter combo.

I have been using the honda filters and oil but as I work for Shell I will switch to be loyal to the brand. Thanks everyone. Now I just have to find out if the V power will harm the bike.... I dont think it should.
Of to Jasper with my daughter for sushi..... what a great country to own a bike in.

I always use V-Power when available. It has no ethanol, for now, in UK, and the high octane has an effect on consumption and oomph!
It will keep your fuel system clean and despite protestations on this site, that the motor is 'agricultural' and therefore likes rough stuff, I treat all my engines to the most appropriate liquid diet, in that 'old' lawnmower engines actually DO like 2* fuel but it is no longer available in UK.

JK

PS I have tried V-power diesel in the Jeep and the difference in performance is tangible but the financial 'sums' don't pay dividends in UK; slower but cheaper. I never use supermarket fuel; I have seen the results and they are irrefutably not good.

I've been doing a lot of research this week regarding oils and the differences in different oils and this topic has made my mind up that i'll be putting Castrol Power1 Racing 10w40 fully synthetic in my bike when I service it this weekend, Ive spoken to my dealer at length and it is the oil Honda used to recommend for  the Varadero.

Any review about the Motul 7100 fully synthetic?

I am a BIG fan of motul. Have runned my previous 2004 Varadero for 100.000 (!) Km on Motul 300V 10w40 and my current Dero on 7100. Perfect and it allows much wider time/km span for oilchange than Honda dictates in the service manual. Currently I do an oilchange once / 2 years (In my case 1x per 20.000 km) and the 'old' oil comes out still as clear as honey.

Maintaing performance along that range..This sounds great!
About the oil color at draining, I heard that the much turbidity and darker color reflects oil's capability to clean the engine  and less turbidity is the opposite!!! Yet, I'm not an expert to judge this:)

It's as good as anything in the same specification range.

Also I first saw that 'Active8' demonstration in about 1974 in a racing garage! Can't fault it. The only proviso with such great lubricity is failure of a new engine to 'bed in'. I had an issue with a Golf GTI that hadn't been pushed hard enough as a demonstrator and it used to blow oil out of the back. VW said that 600 ml per 1500 Km was 'within tolerances', this on an engine still in warranty!
We came to an agreement with the service manager, to use semi- synthetic until the problem went away.....it did.
So, I would say make your engine work but don't abuse it and when it's 'run in' put the best oil you can afford in it and change it as often as you can.

Where do you find the chain lube?

A small revive, but...
I'm thinking of buying some really cheap oil.
Full synthetic, JASO MA2, (JASO T903:2006), API: SM.
About 30 EUR for 4 litres, so it's a sweet deal.
After all reading, I guess there is no real reason to pay more for another brand, and this fully synthetic should be better than a 10W-40 semi synthetic from e.g. Castrol?
