4L of oil instead 3.6
« on: September 12, 2018, 16:11:48 »
Hello

Changed oil on the service. Technician filled 4L instead of 3.6 by mistake (as he explained later).
I noticed it after 60 km, and drained about 400ml. The technician aid that nothing bad happened.
But I doubt it. What to look for? What could have happened?

Thanks

I don't think overfilling by that small amount is likely to cause any damage to your bike. It'll probably make the oil froth and stir it up pretty good but otherwise if you've removed it to the correct level you'll be fine.

You should not worry: the stats of the XL1000V are these:
Capacity: 4,1 litre (Dry fill), Capacity: 3,6 litre (Service fill), Filter capacity: 0,2 litre

So if the oilpan was fully drained during the change (incl replacement of the oilfilter) topping it up with 4.0L should be OK.
