300000 km on a Vara
« on: November 03, 2013, 20:46:58 »
A man named Santiago from Oviedo (N Spain) has ridden them on his 2008 (IIRR) Vara.

I wasn't aware of that, but this "3" at start time means three hundred thousand

Mine has ridden a mere 58.3% of this  ;D

Greetings,

Josep

That's not enough.

Varahannes, a Dero-Rider from Austria, is sharp before 400.000 km on his Dero build in 1999.

I met him during our meeting with some German, Austrians and Dutch guys in October this year at Ossiach/Austria, as I have told in an other thread before.

400.000 kms ... WOW!
A photo from his ODO would be great. So far the only Varadero that i know with lot of mileage (200.000 kms+) is from Poland and belongs to our friend Bogdan.

This is one of the main reasons why I bought a Varadero.

You probably change your wife before the Vara!  ;D

@ Manne,

I don't know your bike nor your wife. So I can't make a decision what you should change first VCIF_a055.
For my conditions (I had two bikes and I have one wife) it's plain sailing.

BTW, it would be good to know the list of things he has done to it, maintenance wise, during the course of the 300K....

This link below is Santiago's blog. It's worth a watch, even you can't read Spanish, or find laughable the google translation to your preferred language as provided in the blog itself; the man has a lot of nice pictures that include "all Western Europe postcards" (NordKapp, Scotland, Alpine passes, ...)

Among other things, he says that in his 200000 to 300000 km, we travelled mainly within the Iberian Peninsula (then not farther than Faro): he didn't dare ride far with his ageing Vara... His Vara started to burn some oil, and then, at 275000, he replaced the whole engine for a "fresh" one with just 15000 km. So his bike is 300000 km, but his engine, no more.  ;)

Cheers,

Josep

When I met Hannes at our "Old Man's Meeting" this autumn, he told me that his bike has the original engine. Only a cylinder has broken and has been changed.

Ok, I was amazed that I went over a wood pallet at 70mph today without so much as a little pothole like vibration. Now that I see pictures on that Spanish bloke's blog of that ship going through dunes and up and down stairs, I suddenly don't feel that big any more.

Need to learn how to ride my Varadero properly off road!
