My latest Iron Butt Ride...
« on: November 04, 2016, 23:07:32 »
Well, now I´ll have to change my statement. When talking with someone about the Werewolf, they often ask: is
it good for long runs? And I usually answer: I don´t know, I´ve never been riding more than 2300 km in a stretch...

But today I received the certificate and merchandise for my latest Iron Butt Ride, the "Bun Burner 2500K Gold", which
means more than 2500 km in less than 24 hours (in fact I did 2530 km in 23 hours and 19 minutes ;D ).

I did the ride to get to a small meeting in north Germany, the "Krabbentreffen" (in english: "Shrimp-meeting"), which
one of my friends and his motorcycle club organizes, but, as there is not that long down there, I did a detour to Sweden ;D.

...so now the answer will be: I don´t know, I´ve never been riding more than 2530 km in a stretch...  ;D

Today I received my stuff from the IronButt association.
This was done after our participating in the British meeting in September.
If I should be able to do the 2500 km ride, it has to be on the way to Andorra in 2018  ;)

See you deep in a German forest ;)

Congrats. There will be no competition from me for this. 1000km a day is my limit at the most.

So, today I recieved the certificates for my latest Iron Butt Rides, one I did in December and one I did in January, on my winter-bike, "The Camel" (Africa Twin), the first one solo, the second one with sidecar :)

And to MrKiwi, this is not about competition. The only competition is according to yourself, you´re only responsible to yourself, and nobody else. Neither to Iron Butt Association, this is "just" an association dedicated to long distance riding and to keep track on the members rides. It´s a question about finding and knowing your limits... and respect them! So, when you say that 1000 km a day is your limit, then you know that and can react according to it. Maybe you´re not the one to do an IBA-ride, and so what, people are different, what matters is that you respect your own limits.
Plan your ride, ride your plan.

Nice certificates.

My riding limit is even less since I dislocated my tail bone. I struggle to do even 600kms in a day unless I do a lot of standing while riding.

Well, I had some thoughts about riding 1600 km on the AT, as the seat is nothing compared to the Varadero. But in reality it wasn´t that bad, and together with shorter stages between the petrolstations than I do on the Varadero, it never got a problem on the December, and solo ride.

Otherwise with the January, and sidecar ride. As the ride went on, I started to get a pain in the left of my butt, so I had to move a bit around on the seat, to change the pressure points. I wondered why, and came to the conclusion that it was caused by the sidecar.

When riding three-wheeled you are steering all the time, because it´s an asymmetrically vehicle. The vehicle should be adjusted so that it´s steering is neutral at normal riding speed, but when going faster, the sidecar will drag more and more to the right, and opposite when releasing the throttle, then the sidecar will drag the vehicle to the left (of cause it´s the opposite with an english sidecar vehicle). Riding motorway most of the time, I was riding faster than I usually do, so the bike was dragging a bit to the right all the time, and to compensate for that, I was constantly steering a bit to the left... and pressing my left buttock in the seat, making it hurt after some time. But, when moving a bit around the seat, I could handle it.

Besides that, I didn´t have any problems worth to mention on any of the rides. "The Camel" just goes on and on and on and on, in fact I´m quite impressed considering it is 26 years old VCIF_ok

And then there was one more... from my February Ride. A detour to get to Louis Moto in Hamburg to buy a new GPS (the old one died on the January Ride, between the end gasstation and my home :o ).
As in January this Ride was done on "The Camel", with sidecar. The papers has been a while underway this time, as IBA had to send them again; the first time they ended up in Brazilia... and it seems they´re still there! :o

Plan your ride, ride your plan.
