Hi all
Has any one tried the new TKC 70 tire on the CT or Varadero yet.  If so, first impressions?

I'm curious, too. I've ridden on the Anakee 3s and the TKC80, Heidenau Scout K60, Pirelli Scorpion Trail and they've all had their benefits and shortcomings.
  • The TKC80 is the best all-rounder (road and offroad/gravel) and most useful in all conditions but its life is way too short for the cost (less than a season for a set of tires is too much for my blood).
  • The Heidenau were long lasting (though not remarkably so - 7,500 kilometres) but were squirrelly in the wet and weren't a very comfortable long tourer tire.
  • I loved the Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires - long life (over 10,000 kilometres), sport touring-type tire but were absolutely scary in mud or wet gravel - used them going to Alaska and the Dempster Highway and they performed well.
So that leaves the Anakee 3s which are long life, good on pavement, acceptable in gravel and compacted dirt and frightening in mud. Dollar for dollar the Anakee 3 is the best in my opinion (for everything except really gnarly roads and muck) and early reviews of the TKC70 on Advrider suggest that it's life is less than stellar and less than the Michelins. Hopefully someone on here is ready for a tire change and can try them out.

I think you have the right idea Mr.Kiwi with the Pilot Road 4 Trail tires. Excellent touring tire that gets by okay in gravel and packed surfaces with excellent longevity.

fitted 2 weeks ago the TKC 70 on my XT 1200 for a ride to the Carpathians.
Up to now I'm very happy with this tyre, but only used on tarmac up to now.
will keep you posted.

OK, I've finally bitten the bullet and replaced the rear tire on my CT.  Off wen the road pilot 4's on on has gone a TKC 70 rear tire.  The front road pilot 4 remains on for the time being.

First impression is I like the tire, will report back once I have put some kilometres on it.

The TCK 70 Tyre looks good. I thought about using it with my Varadero, but unfortunately this I can't do because of the German regulations. Sh....
