Michelin Pilot Road 4 trail
« on: March 04, 2014, 08:34:30 »
Thinking of giving these a try when its time for a change. Michelin says it will last 17% longer than the previous version 3.
So what is the mileage of the 3´s?

Anyway it also states that the compound in the middle of the tyre has been stronger but not loosing the grip.

Some Videos where the tires should be useful and review. Welcome to Geiranger..

Very interesting technology. Looks to be a great tyre, if it does all they say.

Shame about the dopey American presenter; they just don't get the English language....'...ESPECIALLY, on ALL KINDS of surfaces'....? make your mind up.

Is the Revzilla Machine-gun better?

Is the Revzilla Machine-gun better?

OMG! That was really like a machinegun!
 :o

I like these tyres though. Now on PR3. Like them both in dry and wet. Did not like them on a wet and slippery sand/gravel road in Sweden last year. Fitted these PR3 right after vim Tarragona in 2012. Considered to (temporary) fit Anakees/Conti's for this years vim at Geiranger. Since my PR3's are not worn yet I'll keep these on. Probably need changing after Geiranger. Have then done about 10.000km mainly fully packed. I understood from "mr. Machinegun" that the PR4 trail-version is still built up from medium/soft compound where the other PR4 rear tyres now have hard/medium compound to give a longer live. Guess that this PR4 will therefore last as long as the PR3, approx. 10.000k

You are right on that Madero,

only difference between PR3 and PR4 Trails seems to be the pattern in the tyre.

If you only get 10000 km from PR3, well I think I stay on Tourance or Anakees

Nice landscapes in the video.

I believe I can see:
-somewhere in Tuscany
-Trollstigen
-the Millau bridge
-Paris in the rain
-and at 0:27 an unknown (to me) bridge, with a flag which is just like Skye's avatar???

Magnus, it this bridge in your garden?  ;D

Greetings,

Josep

0:27 is the bridge of Atlanthavsveien "Atlantic ocean road" located in Norway about 190km north of Geiranger. Where the road start up to following the norwegian coast the whole way to Nordkapp. Guess Kjetil can provide more information.

Did you give them a try? I need a new front tyre and although I am happy with the Anakee 3s, as its just a few quid more I might go for that one.

How would the PR4T behave if encountering dirt on the road and if its any better then the Anakee3 would be my question. Yes, there is plenty of sand and gravel on the road here at times, especially close to building sites.

Only replaced rear tyre this time. Next time I'm giving a full set of the PR4 Trail on the bike.

Anakee 3 is more or less a rain-tyre. 5% offroad, 95% asphalt. Salesmen from Michelin said that they now have the almost complete tyre for Motorcycle and is now a way ahead from the competitors.

I'm very happy with the PR3t I'm on now. Would be logical to replace them by PR4t when I come back from VCIM Geiranger.
But I've got to admit, that I would surely feel more confident riding (wet) gravel and sandroads  (like Jotunheimvegen) in Norway on Anakees than on my PR3! I think the wider profile of the Anakees (both 2 and 3) are more suited for this kind of roads.
I know it may be only psychological but that's my feeling at this moment. Within two weeks I will have found this out!

Safe trip guys and report back for the record.
I bought PR3 Ts as the 4s are as yet unproven. Haven't done 500kms yet because of the weather in UK.

I just put on a set of PR4 trail in place of Anakee III.

Haven't done much yet, but so far they turn in with much less effort, appear to be much stiffer, bumps and broken pavement is a lot more jarring. Time will tell how I really feel about them.

I took the Anakees off before they were worn out, at 8000 Kms, probably have 4000 left in them as I'm going on a bit of a road trip and wanted to start fresh. However the front Anakee seems to be wearing quite a bit faster than the rear..

Had some heavy rain and hail yesterday when driving down from Aurlandfjell (Norway). Bike fully packed and my wife on the back. Lots of tight hairpins and steep descents. Had full confidence in my PR3's and they did not let me down! Also on dry they performed very well. Assuming that the PR4 will be even better, I'm sure you won't be disappointed in chosing these tyres!
