Lane Filtering in BC, Canada.
« on: June 30, 2017, 07:52:21 »
Yep!  For all us riders in Europe, whom have filtered since I can remember!
I was shell shocked on moving to BC, Canada, to discover that, with the recent exception of California, Lane filtering and Lane Splitting is illegal in pretty much the whole of the USA and Canada!  eeek!

Traffic laws in Canada can be introduced at a Federal or Provincial level.  In the province of British Columbia (BC) there is an initiative underway to introduce lane filtering.  Its a start!   I'm helping, where I can, to promote the idea and support the initiative as it saves riders live and helps reduce traffic congestion.

About lane filter BC
Lane Filter BC is a group of dedicated volunteers working towards the adoption of lane filtering in British Columbia, Canada, in order to increase road user safety and road use efficiency while decreasing the cost of living for British Columbians and reducing carbon emissions.

In France not allowed( but used  ;) ); we have an experimentation since 2016 in part of France where there is a test, and if everything is ok it can be allowed in whole France in 2020...

Ah! Interesting.  Didn't know that.

Many countries are looking at it once more.  Including other states in the USA.  Australia has implemented filtering almost country wide from what I have read.  Not sure about New Zealand.
More and more being talked about this in Canada, especially BC and Alberta.

Too many riders are getting rear ended by cars in traffic due to people driving whilst on mobile devices.  It is also a good way of reducing traffic congestion and maybe reduce pollution a little, which many authorities hope for.
