Hi Jack,

it depends on what you want to see and how is your timeplanning.

Both of your routes are possible within Germany, no problem.
If you never had been at Austria, take this tour.

But if you had been at Austria and never had been at France (Alsace - Les Voges) or at Germany (Black Forest) and you have the time to go off the Autobahn take the route via Swiss and Frankfurt and offer the time - left or right of the Autobahn - to go at the South-Voges (France) and/or the South Black Forest (Germany).

We´ll see us at Winterberg, have a save trip.

I would follow Rainers advice on the Black Forrest route. Its beautifull in spring!
Most Mountain passes on the Alps are likely still to be closed early May.

If you like nice towns, there are a few along the well known Romantische Strasse:

Can be an option to the north, if we do not ride entire German hoch alpenstrasse...  ;)
Alone we go faster, together we go further

I do not ride fast, I ride far / I'm not lost, I'm just exploring

Not yet time for me to prepare my trip, but I probably ride first the deutsche alpenstrasse (from west to east). I listen for all proposition from end of this road to Winterberg  VCIF_salut  ;)

So now you can listen and see.

Please see the link below.

http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=xcensaevyztxjgjy

This is the "Deutsche Motorradstrasse" part IV, which is a circel, but which touches at the south east your way east via the "Deutsche Alpenstrasse".

You can addapt this following trip-proposal up to the middle of Germany along the border to Austria and via the "Bayrische Wald" (border to Czech Republic) up to SCHOTTEN, a great MC-meetingpoint
http://www.biker-treff.de/treff/Falltorhaus+Mototreff+an+der+B+276.html
which is located at the "Vogelsberg".

From there on it´s only few km to VCIM18.

Please feel free to take a part of it and program your Garmin/TT or just take a part of the GPS-data which you can download.

Good morning Jack,

in reference to your two routes you posted at the very beginning I would take the eastern one, which is as well the quickest one.
But even if this is in Germany, it´s not the area I live and where I do my mc-tours. I had been there several times by car and yes it's an beautiful landscape.

As I recommended above, I would take the route via Switzerland to BASEL along the Rhein-Valley (taking the time to go off the Autobahn to ride few km´s through the Black Forest) via KARLSRUHE and Frankfurt north to Winterberg.

I hope this is a little help for your planing.
At the end it´s your decision between the routes, which are all possible. You have to consider that there will be traffic jams at all routes so that you need more time than declared by your routing-program.
Please feel free to ask again.
